God's Message/Commands/Promises:
》it's sad that after Solomon died, rebellion took place in Israel. But note that this was not a sudden act from the Israelites. It was caused due to Solomon's own wrong doings. The people's obedience to Solomon was brought by David's obedience to God. It was God's promise to David and Solomon but when Solomon did evil in the eyes of God, this is when the people began to feel unsatisfied and abused but they remained obedient tk Solomon for David's sake. Yet when Solomon died, the people voiced out their concerns to the new king, King Rehoboam, Solomon's son. But instead of listening to the elders, king Rehoboam chose to listen to his friends. Note that when Rehoboam asked the elders, he asked them, "what do you advise me to answer them?" But when he asked his friends, he asked, "What do you advise that WE answer them?" Rehoboam clearly don't see the elders one with him, but he thinks that his friends are one with him in this leadership role he received from his father. He clearly didnt have a strong relationship with the elders or maybe he didnt even think of forming one with them. It seems like he didn't see them as on his side unlike how he sees his friends. This teaches us that relatinships are important but we need to build them with the right people too. Rehoboam based his decisions solely because of his friendship but it got him in so much trouble and he failed to honor the advice of the elders. A clear indication of pride and without respect to the elders, whicn resulted to rebellion. So note that our pride can cause others to rebel. We have to be careful to always have a humble heart and respect the elders.
