TITLE: Hezekiah Purifies the Temple

Scripture:  2 Chronicles 29:1 - 36

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ I am excited with this chapter because the 2nd king of Judah that was ever described to follow David’s steps is written on this chapter.  King Hezekiah, known to be the king that God stopped the universe from turning to give the sign he asked for.  Amazing!  But let me start with Hezekiah’s family background.  Well, he is the son of King Ahaz, the king who prostituted himself to just any god and the king who closed the doors of the temple of God and set high places around it.  What an evil king yet out from him, came Hezekiah, one of the great kings of Judah.  But Hezekiah’s main influence in life is the family in the side of his mother.  Tracking down his family tree, you will be amazed to know that Hezekiah have David’s blood in both of his parents.  We know how Ahaz came to be and we can trace his birth to the kings of Judah but for Abijah, Hezekiah’s mother, on the other hand had an interesting family tree as well.  Abijah was the daughter of Zechariah II (priest) who was the descendants of Zechariah I, the son of Jehoida, Jehoida the priest who ruled Judah with King Joash; Jehoida who was the husband of Jehosheba, the sister of Ahaziah (son of Jotham and Athaliah) so Jehosheba was the daughter of King Jotham (son of King Jehoshaphat).  So in short, King Hezekiah had David’s blood on both parents (Ahaz from the line of the kings and Abijah from the line of the priest).  Wow!  Amazing lineage he came from!  God is truly good that despite his father (Ahaz) was so lost when it comes to his relationship with the Lord, God made sure that Hezekiah had the support and the right people to guide him in the right path.  I believe Hezekiah grew up in the guidance of Zechariah II.  Wow!  This only confirms that God has set and prepared everything for us, making sure that our path will always cross His.  Hallelujah!  Thank You Lord!

So the first thing Hezekiah did when he became king was open the doors to temple of the Lord and consecrated it together with the levites and everyone.  This is because of the influence of Zechariah II (his grandfather) to him.  Hezekiah knew the reason why they were captured and lost.  He knew what to do to get back on their feet; he knew the solution to bring prosperity, peace, power, wealth and etc back to Judah; he knew that they need GOD!  Hezekiah was trained and prepared for his role by God Himself, ensuring He had both the blood of the kings and the priest to purify and restore Judah back to God!  Hallelujah!  Wow!  What a great love from the Lord!  So the temple was consecrated, the Levites were consecrated, the doors of the temple of the Lord was opened, the people offered sacrifices for the Lord, musicians and singers and everyone praise and worship God, everyone knelt down and worshipped God alone.  They all dedicated themselves to God and the service of the temple of the Lord was reestablished.  Everyone rejoiced!

There was consecration, dedication, sacrifices, and rejoicing that day!  Hallelujah!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, amazing Father and Mighty God.  I am in awe with how You have prepared and set our lives to always cross Your path.  We truly belong to You and no matter what happens in our lives or in our lineage, we go back to You and You alone because You are our source of everything, You are my life.  Lord thank You because all I need is You and everything else will follow.  Like Hezekiah, he knew what to do.  His kingdom was falling apart but when he became king, he knew what he needed to do.  He was ready and sure of the actions he took.  I know Lord what to do, help me to take the right steps back to You.  Just like Hezekiah, help me Lord to do what is needed.  That despite of the loses, Hezekiah had hope and he knew what needs to be done.  Lord help me to have the same knowledge and heart.  Give me the strength to do what is right and choose to do it now.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
