TITLE: Abijah King of Judah
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 13:1 - 22
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Before King Rehoboam died, he and the Israel with him humbled down before God and so God made them strong. Now with the reign of Rehoboam’s son, Abijah, God was with them. Abijah according to 1 Kings 15, did not devout his heart fully to the Lord and he committed the same mistakes as Rehoboam did (inconsistent). Though his heart’s desire was right, he wanted to reunite Israel and so he fought against Jeroboam but possibly because of his inconsistency, his attempt to reunite the nation failed. But despite of his inconsistency, God’s grace and magnificent love was written over his story. 2 Chronicles 13 speaks of an incident where God is to be greatly glorified for His work in the life of Abijah. The battle between the 2 kings of Israel started. One was pure evil, Jeroboam, the other was struggling with the right desire, Abijah. Abijah spoke such great words during this battle and his humbled heart led him to victory over Jeroboam who had the advantage when it comes to numbers at that time. Abijah reminded the people of God’s words, and he fought mightily in letting the people understand what they are getting their selves into but those words fell into deaf ears. We have Abijahs in our times today but despite of the failed attempts and despite of God giving him victory over their major battle with Jeroboam, still the people did not listen. Yet it did not stop Abijah, in fact, the Bible says, that there was war between Judah and Israel all the time of Abijah as king. So Abijah continued his fight until he died. He did not lose hope and he pursued on his calling to reunite both nations. 2 Chronicles 13 even says that Jeroboam did not regain power during Abijah’s reign yet the people of Israel still did not listen. Nevertheless, Abijah continued with his fight until the end of his life. Let us always remember Abijah today especially when we are faced with failures upon failures. Let us not be easily disappointed but let us press on for the work of Abijah, thru out his lifetime, left a marked on both camps and even to this day because it is written in God’s words. Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Great and Mighty Lord, You are with the humble and You delight in our praises to You. Lord, help me to have the heart of Abijah who did not quit just because he failed on his mission. Help me to have the drive to pursue the calling You have for me even if things did not work out the way I want them. Help me to be consistent and be humble always. To rest in Your power and love and depend on You alone. Let me live totally surrender and dependent on You Jesus. Use me the way You want to and let Your glory show in this life of mine. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
