TITLE: Ahaz King of Judah
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 29:1 - 27
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ King Ahaz was King Jotham’s son. King Jotham was the man who was only concerned of his life with God and did not bother with the rest of the people that’s why though his ways were right before God, the people’s corrupt ways remained under his reign. Because of this, I believe King Ahaz was not taught right. So when he succeeded his father, he was lost and confused. He seek so many idols and gods and made sacrifices to different images because I believe he didn’t have a personal relationship with God as his father did not teach him about it before he left. But King Ahaz did not seek the Lord either, unlike Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord of his father after Asa died. The worst part about king Ahaz was that, he went to many idols and participated in rituals or practices that are purely against God, like sacrificing his children in the fire and many more. So Judah was delivered to their enemies, including to the king of Israel, Pekah, who inflicted such heavy casualties to Judah. Israel carried them as prisoners and took a great deal of plunder back to Samaria but then a prophet of God came to intervene. Wow! God’s grace and love is amazing. Here we see two brothers ((Israel and Judah) fighting and 1 won capturing the other and making him his prisoner but God won’t allow such great hatred and evil to bound the two brothers together. Halfway home, God through the prophet, Oded, came and stopped the men of Israel and warned them that what they’re doing (intention of making their brothers their slaves) is not God’s plan and will be a great sin. Not only that, God made sure that the leaders of Israel confronted the men about this matter too. This picture clearly shows us how we should respond to our brothers that we are in conflict with. Despite of the arguments/conflicts, no matter how wrong the other one is, the truth remains that both are wrong because both sinned, and so there’s really no point to winning an argument because both parties are never purely good. So we ought to forgive and forget and unite for God’s glory for He is the only one without sin! In this case, Israel won the battle but in the end they were the ones who took care of Judah (the losing nation). Verses 14 - 15 said that the men of Israel gave up the prisoners and the plunder, they designated men to clothed those men of Judah who were naked, gave them food to eat, sandals for their feet, drink for their thirst and healing balm for their wounds. Those who were weak were put on donkeys and brought them back to Samaria. Amazing! So God literally wants the winners to take care of the losers. But human logic would think, “I won so you serve me!” But God’s logic says, “You won, you serve the losers!” Amazing! I mean what a totally opposite of what our minds are trained to think! Hallelujah!
Despite of God’s grace and love showed to Judah, King Ahaz didn’t learn his lessons yet and God humbled the whole nation because of what Ahaz did yet he was stubborn that he even closed the doors of the temple and offered sacrifices to the god of the king of Assyria for he thought that his god helped him defeat them. What a twisted mind? The truth is, this is what the devil wants us to think whenever we are in the same situation. We end up seeing what our opponents have that we don’t and thought that it was the reason why we lose. But in reality, we ought to focus on what we have or better yet, WHO WE HAVE to win our battles in life. Until the end of King Ahaz’s life, he was confused and evil. When he died he was buried in the city of David but not at the tombs of the kings and his son HEZEKIAH succeeded him.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, amazing God! What a wonderful lesson You taught me today. I am amazed of Your ways and Your thoughts Lord. I pray that I am able to obey and follow Your ways or Your words rather than my own. Give me the strength to say no to my own thinking and always consider Your thoughts in every decisions I have to make in life. Help me to respond the way You want me to the people I have conflict with. Give me strength Lord to battle my own emotions or own self-centered thinking/feelings and make Your word a priority that I may treat my brothers in sisters in Christ the way You designed me to treat them. Help me to win every battle i face by focusing on You and Your words on how to deal with them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
