TITLE: Jotham King of Judah
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 26:1 - 9
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Jotham, Uzziah’s son succeed him and became king of Judah at the age of 25. He ruled 16 years yet he grew powerful because he walked steadfastly before the Lord his God. He didn’t made the same mistake as Uzziah had done who became arrogant and proud. He did what was right in the eyes of God but the people remained corrupt. Jotham is a classic example of men of God today who walked uprightly but mind their own business. He was king for 16 years and all those years, he allowed his people to continue in their corrupt ways. This may be the reason why he was not described as a king following David. He did what was right before the Lord for his sake only and did not extend that influence towards God’s people, the same David and Jehoshaphat. God was faithful to him and blessed him with victories over the Ammonites to a point that the Ammonites paid him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand cors of wheat and ten thousand cors of barley for years. His reign was filled with success and consistency in God. He is a law abider but not a seeker like David and Jehoshaphat who extended their influence not only to their selves but to the people under their reign. So as you can see, his reign was short and sweet but don’t have that big impact like David or Jehoshaphat, eventhough he did what was right in the eyes of God. May we learn from Jotham’s life and do not settle to do what is right before God only, but to seek Him with all our hearts and expand that influence to the people around us. Let us understand and please our God not only with our lives but bring others to do the same.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Jotham’s life. Thank You because YOu prospered him even if he didn’t influence the rest of Your people to the right path like David and Jehoshaphat did. Thank You because his life is now a lesson to us all so that we will not settle to make only our lives right before You but also aim to encourage others to do the same. May our lives impact others the way, David and Jehoshaphat did. May we desire to have lives like them and not settle to be like Jotham. Let You be glorified in us. One thing i learned is that despite of the fact that Jotham did what was right, no where in this chapter was it said that God was glorified. But only that Jotham was blessed with victory, wealth and power because he walked steadfastly with You. Great thing about God is even if Jotham’s life was not written in the Bible as a life that glorified God, still we glorify God for what He did in Jotham’s life! Hallelujah! May I aim to go beyond than just thinking of myself but to always consider to do what is right before You and to inspire the people under my influence to do the same. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
