TITLE: Seek the Lord
Scripture: 2 Chronicles 9:1 - 12
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ What does it mean to seek the Lord?
1) To seek is to pursue. The Queen of Sheba pursued the truth. When she heard about Solomon’s greatness, she was not contented of just hearing the truth, she wanted to experience and witness it herself. So she traveled from Sheba to Jerusalem to see it with her own eyes and experience the goodness of the Lord in Solomon’s life. The Queen according to research is the ruler of Sheba (she has no king), leaving her land to travel to Jerusalem was a risk but it was a risk she was willing to take in search for the truth. I asked myself why? Why would the Queen risk it? I believe that whatever she heard about Solomon then, she wanted to know what Solomon has to be known as a great leader of Israel. She wanted to know the secret as she, herself, is the only ruler for her own nation. So she risked leaving her land in quest for the truth. She sought the truth in Solomon’s reign. During this time, a woman as a ruler is really of no threat to other kingdoms, yet the Queen still went to Jerusalem and left her land in search for the truth without fearing of losing her land in the process. Sometimes, in our lives, we need to take certain risks in pursuit of God. We would need to sacrifice or leave things behind (valuable things, person, honor, love, etc) in pursuit of the Lord. Yet as the story goes, the Queen received more than what she has offered in this pursuit of the truth.
Let us remember that everything we lay down or give up in pursuit of the Lord, will always be returned even more than what we have given up for Him. So don’t be afraid to take the risk. Just like this Queen, be driven to pursue God!
2) To seek is to test. The Queen came with prepared questions for Solomon. She didn’t came and just believe anything, she tested Solomon and was overwhelmed when Solomon was able to answer all her hard questions easily. In our pursuit of God, it is important to know His word so we may not be deceive especially today that we have so many people declaring they have the message from God. As it is written in 1 John 4:1, let us make sure to test the spirit to confirm that he/she is from the Lord.
3) To Seek is to Believe leading to Praise and Worship before the Lord. The Queen upon seeing and experiencing everythign that God has done for Solomon spoke Praise to the Name of the Lord. And this was only made possible when she believed. So when we hear the truth and seek God, it is to believe in Him. Let everything in us lead to worship and praise before the King of Kings!
4) To Seek is to act. The Queen after pursuing, testing, and believing, she didnt leave without acting on her belief. She gave offering to Solomon with everything she brought with her. But the best part was, it is written that the Queen received even more than what she has given. Hallelujah!
So let us follow the example of the Queen who did not settle for just hearing the word or the good news, but pursued it! Let us not settle for second hand blessings, let’s go directly to the source to experience firsthand, God’s word and love and grace for us! Amen!
