TITLE: Contributions for Worship

Scripture:  2 Chronicles 31:1 - 21

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ After the celebration of the Passover, Hezekiah and the people went together to destroy the sacred stones and cut down the Aserah poles - totally getting rid of themselves of sin.  And this was done not only in Judah but also in Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh before the people went on to their own homes.  King Hezekiah, made sure that the people were purified and cleanse not only themselves but even the land of any high places that can lure them back to sin.  So King Hezekiah, did not only invited the people to celebrate with him, did not only cleanse them and led them back to God, he also made sure that their homes were cleaned from any sacred stones or high places near their home so they will not be tempted to fall back into old habits.  

Another great thing that King Hezekiah did was not only cleanse the people, celebrated the passover but also encouraged everyone to bring their tithe or contributions as their worship to God.  Tithe as we know symbolically relates to our priority.  To give our tithe means we make God the priority in our lives (in our finances) and it is an act of worship to Him.  So Hezekiah made sure that the people participated in this act as it is for them not for the temple, not for God, nor it is for the King, but for the people themselves.  And so it was as King Hezekiah directed them to do.  People brought their contributions to a point that the Levite and Priest have more than enough.  Hezekiah had to build a storehouse for the temple because of the generosity of the people.  And in the end, God prospered them for King Hezekiah sought him wholeheartedly.  

Also note that verse16 shows that men as young as 3 years old in the levites clan already have duties in the temple.  So no one is too young to serve God!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, Amazing God!  I am in awe of the great things You did for Hezekiah.  For guiding him what to do.  Thank You because truly when the peopel seek You wholeheartedly, ridding ourselves of sin is a natural reaction.  Lord please enable me to destroy the Aserah poles and sacred stones in my life, the high places that i may not be tempted to return to old habits.  Help me to guard my heart and mind to ensure that i don’t fall into sin but lead me Lord every step that I may be safely protected by Your hand.  Help me Lord to give my contributions as You have instructed as a symbol of me prioritizing You in my life.  Lord help me to serve and seek You alone wholeheartedly as long as I live so that will be throughout eternity for You have given me eternal life.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
