TITLE: Shishak Attacks Jerusalem

Scripture: 2 Chronicles 12:1 - 16 

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→  King Rehoboam and all Israel with him abandoned the Lord when they became strong.  Here we see the pattern, most of the time the Israelites tend to forget the Lord when they are living in comfort and success.  When Israel was divided, Rehoboam learned his lesson and humbled himself back to God and so God kept his lineage for David’s sake and made him king over the remaining of Israel and strengthened them.  Yet when they became strong and living good, they became unfaithful.  This is typical even to this day.  Many people today, believers and even unbelievers are going thru the same pattern.  We only remember the Lord when we are going thru some tough times yet when we are at the peak of our success or we are at the level of our life where we have been accomplishing so much, we tend let our guard down and deceived our own selves into thinking that everything is okay without the Lord.  We go back to our old ways and then we fall into the same trap over and over and over again.  Funny but incredibly true.  Humans fall into the same pattern and the Lord wrote these stories so we may see and be vigilant not to repeat our mistakes.  

So here we have Rehoboam and the Israel with him being unfaithful and so the Lord abandoned them in the hands of Shishak, God’s reason?  So that they will learn the difference between serving the Lord and serving human authorities.  Wow!  This is powerful.  Many times we get privileges in serving or being the right hand man of someone great or a powerful authority figure on earth, yet we do not realize that most human authority figure are, may not be the worst, but definitely lead or rule in ways we do not expect.  Human authority figures are worst rulers or kings to serve than God.  When we serve God, we benefit.  When we serve man, he benefits but not us.  This learning process was so critical to Rehoboam and all the Israelites with him because here they were able to identify and confirm the grace of the Lord.  They continued to humble themselves and so God said that there is still “good” in Judah.  Let us have the same heart especially when we are disciplined by the Lord.  His discipline comes with Grace and powerful learning.  So we focus on the value of the discipline and not its difficulties.  Because when it serves its purpose in our lives, we come out better than who we used to be.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You because You are Gracious and Your love is wonderfully poured to us every time.  Lord help me to see Your goodness every day and help me to never become relax or over confident with myself in times of success and victories.  Remind me always Lord that You are a better King than anything else, whether it is a human boss, work, love, money, etc.  Lord let me always consider You in everything i received.  Remind me always that everything I have is totally not mine fully because You are the source of it all.  And all i need is You Lord  In times, when I need to be disciplined, help me to see Your bigger plan in all the difficulties i have to go thru.  Let Your will be done at all times Lord.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
