TITLE: Job

Scripture:  Job 10:1 - 22

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Chapter 10 spoke of Job’s continued resentment and words of injustice.  In this stage of Job’s life, I can say that he was already depressed.  His words spoke of no hope.  His words are full of resentment and injustice, and because of his condition, his sufferings, his knowledge of God has been distorted too.  Job had great understanding of who God is yet when worse came to worse, his own understanding was clouded by his own sufferings and pain.  As human as we are, Job’s story is a classic example of our human nature.  We tend to have this entitlement of getting justice and being treated fairly or equally and when we are denied of it, we felt that we have the right to get mad or angry...we then tend to think the worse of God and the worse of His people.  Here we see that Job’s words escalated with more certainty that God denied him justice; that it was God who found him guilty and punished him even when he didn't do wrong.  So now Job’s confusions have drawn a conclusion and a wrong one I might add, especially when his friends were of no help in giving him a clear and enlightening understanding of what’s happening.  His depression escalated because now, he wished that he was dead before he was born.  Typical progress from pity to depression to suicidal tendencies.  So we now see Job escalating to his worse as he continued to suffer without hope, in addition to that, his friends came and instead of showing kindness or mediate for him, they accuse him and questions his integrity and knowledge of God.  See how powerful friendship can be.  As friends we have the power to help or bring our friends to complete destruction.  As a human being, having known our human nature, we ought to be cautious and careful of our thoughts, actions and emotions.  Men tend to backlash or attack God when he comes to his worse but we can stop that.  We can choose to be like Joseph, who choose to do what is right and good despite of the injustice that was shown to him instead of choosing Job who at first was firm in God but in the end gave in to his own nature.  

Looking at the story of Job and Joseph, just contrasting their characters.  Joseph was tactless and proud because he was loved by all so in a way, he felt he was untouchable and so when the worst came to his life, he was humbled.  Why?  Because his pride was not something he earned, the loved that he received was given to him by his father freely and he didnt do anything to earn it.  So he was proud becuase of his father’s love but not because of his own work.  Job on the other hand, was loved by God deeply but he was also a man of work.  He ensured that everythign he did was right and good.  So in short, his righteousness, he earned.  So when the worst came to him, he was proud and resentful.  See the difference?  That’s why it is important to see that everything we receive or earn are all possible because God allowed it too.  It is important to understand that on our own, we are nothing.  Only when Christ is with us that we can do everything.  Humility!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, amazing Lord.  I am so in awe of your revelation today.  Thank You for once again clearing things to me.  Thank You for always reminding me to be humble.  Thank You Lord for showing me the difference between Joseph and Job.  Help me Lord to always consider myself nothing without You because it is the truth.  Help me Lord to always be reminded of Your word in my life.  Let me always know that I am who I am today because of You.  I achieved what I have achieved because of You alone.  Let me be a humble servant at all times.  Not thinking that I know better but give me a humble heart and mind and spirit to always consider the fact that I am nothing without You.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
