TITLE: The Greatness of Mordecai

Scripture:  Esther 10:1 - 3 

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ This I believe is the shortest chapter in the whole Bible.  If Jude is the shortest book of the Bible, Esther chapter 10 is the shortest chapter consisting of 3 verses only.  But these 3 verses spoke the promotion of Mordecai, the man who never tried to lift himself up.  He was hardworking, and ambitious but his ambition is not for himself but his people.  Haman worked hard for himself, however Mordecai worked hard for his people, God’s people.  And when he did so, God lifted him up and blessed him.  Note that his heart was focused on the Jews and never to himself.  He did not seek for Esther to appoint him a certain position or role in the palace when she became Queen.  He was happy for Esther and possibly, he spoke to God of Esther’s purpose of becoming a Queen, as to why his cousin who is like a daughter to him was paired in marraige to a foreigner, not only a Persian but a King.  So possibly this is the reason why he saw Queen Esther’s purpose first because he was thinking about her and what happened to her and he is wise enough to know that everything happened to one of them affects everyone in their family.  The best thing about this chapter is found in verses 2 when King Xerxes made sure that all Mordecai’s acts of power and might were written in full account in the book of Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia.  The Book of Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia was a book of all the reigns of all Kings of Media and Persia and for a Jew to be written on it is a huge honor and privilege.  All the names in that book are about the Kings and here’s a few pages dedicated specifically for Mordecai who is not even a Median or Persian, what an amazing privilege is that?  Now that’s how God gives us honor, something that no money can buy.  God honors those who pleased Him with an honor that no man can buy nor erase, even to this day, Mordecai’s greatness is celebrated and remembered during the celebration of the Purim yearly.  Wow!  Even to this day, Mordecai's life or story points directly to the greatness of God in saving His people from Haman.  So death was not even able to stop Mordecai from accomplishing his purpose.  Amazing!  

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are marvelous and awesome!  Thank You becuase Your reward for us are more precious than gold or silver.  Thank You because Your blessings are priceless and eternal that no money can ever buy or destroy.  Mordecai was selfless and had a huge heart for Your people just like You and so he was honored for all eternity because You gave that to him.  Thank You Lord.  Help me Lord to seek for Your reward and blessings and not the ones that I can see or achieve physically.  Help me to become like Mordecai who has a heart for Your people.  Help to feel the need to do good and help Your people without any expectations of rewards or return.  Help me to focus on Your beloved that I may be instrumental in showing them Your greatness and glory.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
