TITLE: Mordecai Honored
Scripture: Esther 6:1 - 14
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ God is amazing! Indeed, the battle is the Lord’s! Mordecai’s faith in God was so strong and it became reality in this chapter. Mordecai said to Esther previously that God will send deliverance to Israel and God did specifically to mordecai. Mordecai is the mortal enemy of Haman and despite of Mordecai’s good actions, it just led Haman to hate him more. Note that Mordecai saved the king’s life and did not receive anything in return for it but Mordecai did not demand for a reward or anything in return. He did what he did because it was the right thing to do and he knew that God will repay him. And God did so! The King that night after his dinner with Queen Esther and Haman could not sleep and God made him brought the Chronicles to read about his reign to him. Note, the King’s intention to have the Chronicles read to him is to hear his about his reign, his success, his accomplishments yet when it was read to him, he heard something else. He heard the selfless act of Mordecai to save him. Note, sometimes, it’s good to stop and think about the past so we can appreciate and be thankful of the things we have become or accomplished today. That’s the purpose of the past and the King learned from it. He learned to be grateful by reviewing his past. So he sought to honor Mordecai the man who saved his life.
The funny thing about this story is Haman. God is truly a great God and He knows better always. The King called Haman and asked him what he could do to honor the man that he is please with but with pride and arrogance, Haman thought that the King was referring to him so he told the King what he wants the king to do to him because of his great work! Little did he know that his suggestions will be done to his mortal enemy Mordecai. What an irony! So the next day, Haman was instructed by the King to do everything he said the king should do and he was to do it to Mordecai. Oh, what anger and humiliation he must have felt but since the king was not aware of his anger towards Mordecai, the humiliation he felt was only visible to him, Mordecai, God, his wise and his friends whom he had boasted of his anger towards Mordecai to. We ought to learn from Haman and be careful to whom we lash out our anger to. Because when Karma comes, that humiliation will be revelaed felt deeply by us especially from the people to whom we have been sharing our secrets to. Note that when Haman spoke of these to his wife and friends, instead of comforting him, they spoke of his defeat! Now that’s something no one wants to be in when you’re already having a very crappy day.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Mordecai’s humility and good heart paid off by You and not by any man. And truly rewards coming from You are sweeter than any material or things man can offer. Help me Lord to always be humble and not seek recognition but will always seek Your recognition and approval only and no one else. Help me Lord to always remember that my battles are Yours and that I do not fight my own battles so I should trust You wholeheartedly without doubts like Mordecai did even if things dont seem to be going my way. Help me Lord to learn from Mordecai and the life of Haman and make sure to apply it in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
