TITLE: Bildad
Scripture: Job 8:1 - 22
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Bildad was worse than Eliphaz. Eliphaz started by accusing Job of sinning...but Bildad accused Job of forgetting who God is. Now he is questioning Job’s knowledge and relationship with the Lord. Bildad said in verse 13, “such is the destiny of all who forgot God, so perishes the hope of the godless.” Job knows who he is and he knows his relationship with God. His first friend accused him of sinning, which attacks his integrity and now his second friend accused him of his knowledge of God, which impacts the basis of his faith. Bildad showed him a tangible proof of the most humanly possible reason of his sufferings. Again these words from Bildad were based on history that were proven to be true. The stories of their ancestors reveals the truth of the punishment of sins so it makes their reasoning more solid than ever, leaving Job no possible option to prove his innocense. We have Eliphaz using the law to confirms his accusation to Job of sinning. Bildad made the point stronger when he brought out facts based on history to affirm Eliphaz’s point. But Job’s only proof of his innocense is his word and he thought that his friends can be his character witness on his trial, but they do, turned against him because of the overwhelming evidence of sufferings in his life. Sometimes, we are push into Job’s situation where the only proof of our innocense is our words and knowledge of ourselves. The people who we thought could help us and affirm our innocense are the ones who will lead us to question our own innocense and lead us into thinking of the possibility of doubting ourselves and our relationship with God.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Eliphaz and Bildad are good friends of Job but their response to him in his sufferings were not out of compassion or your command that is to love your neighbor as yourselves. Good thing Lord that You made that command clear before You left earth. I pray Lord that You give me the strength to give the compassion and kindness my friends need in times of difficulties and sufferings. Help me Lord to be more like You in dealing with situations that it feels like the devil’s hand is at work. Help me not to be like ELiphaz or Bildad in any moment of my lives but help me to stand firm on the truth and not question my own innocense or someone’s innocense. Instead help me be a channel of Your love that whether they sinned or not, the only action they see from me is Your love and kindness to them. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
