TITLE: Job

Scripture:  Job 9:1 - 35

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Job’s words at this time was a cry for justice!  A cry for equality and his innocense be heard.  Job wanted a fair trial, he sought an audience to the Lord to be heard of his case.  Here Job’s word showed who God is based in his emotions.  He knew that God is all powerful and his words showed that His word is final.  Job here sounded like a man desperate for any hope.  As mentioned, he has been feeling hopeless and helpless and his friends were of no help to him in his time of need.  Now, he is desperate and he is quoting God having the ultimate decision or say on his behalf.  Job’s words are out of a man in anguish and you can see that he was being resentful to God.  He felt the unfairness of his situation.  He felt that justice was not rightfully done in his behalf.  And though his words have a full basis but it was only based on his knowledge and experience.  In a way he was feeling resentful to God for making judgment or allowing these things to happen to him without hearing his side of the story when in fact, he is doing the same to God.  However evern in the end of this chapter, he sought for someone to remove God’s rod upon him.  He was still pleading for someone to save him out of this brutal condition.  His words may sound resentful towards God because he felt injustice yet he was not too proud to plead for salvation and mercy.  Job did not thought that God would hear him, for uncertain reasons (possibly because of his condition) and so he sought for a mediator. But his friends already failed to become one.  As instead of mediating for him, they put more coals on fire by accusing him of something he didnt do.  So Job is conflicted here I believe.  He wants to hold on to the God who He knows to be good but with his situation, he was struggling to hold on to that belief when he felt injustice.  This makes Job human.  He struggled so much to do what is right and believe in the God he knew by heart to be good in his condition and feeling of injustice.  A clear indication of Job, a blameless and righteous man, but still 100% human who felt the same struggles we feel between good and evil.  But Job refused to break his beliefs based on what he is experiencing that’s why even though he had all the reasons to be mad or hurt, there’s this little flicker of hope in him to plead for his life, first: he sought kindness from his friends and pleaded to be seen as who he is, as the man whose integrity is flawless and now second: he sought for someone to mediate for him before God to present his case and sought justice for him.  Unfortunately, none of his friends did so.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, Job’s life was very complicated.  I know that his life is to teach me a greater lesson but all I see is a man who didnt give up on what he believed in eventhough everyone already told him that he did wrong and should seek forgiveness.  It was very hard for him for he believed 2 truths: 1) he is innocent and 2) God is good.  And though what is happening to him contradicts one of the two, he refused to believe that God is not good and he also refused to believe that he was guilty.  Job was a man who had a clear understanding of who he is and who You are in his life.  And so he knew that there’s something wrong becuase of what is happening to him but he knew that the 2 truths he hold onto are correct and there’s no way he will believe otherwise unless he is convinced that one of the two is wrong.  That’s why despire of his words that sounded resentful or hurt, he remained innocent and not guilty or without sin because he hold onto the two truths that he himself proven to be correct!  Lord I pray that I will have the same commitment and strong beliefs as Job had.  Though he had a lot of questions, it did not swayed him from the truth.  So he remained confuse and conflicted until You decided to speak and give him answers.  Lord help me to become like Job in my knowledge of You.  That no matter what happens to me, whether good or bad, I will always know that You are good!  In Jesus’ name, Amen!
