TITLE: Job
Scripture: Job 12:1 - 25
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Chapter 12 shows us the progress of Job’s emotional status. He was pitied on and became depressed. His words, though the truth, were full of resentment and injustice. This chapter now shows us Job’s distorted knowledge of God. It clearly reveals how our personal emotion can distort our knowledge of the Lord. All the words said by Job in this chapter were true yet it was focused on God as a judge and an executioner. His words sounded like God was unrelateable or unrealistic with His actions. Job’s words sounded like God is a powerful God and He is good and all but He is also someone who does not extend mercy to those He doesn’t want to give it to. But the Bible clearly showed us that God is slow to anger and abounding ni love. During the time of Job, David already wrote about God and how His mercy and Grace are abundant to His children. Yet Job chose to believe what He wants to believe only based on the limited experience and codition He had then. And this teaches me that as man or human, we are similar to Job. Many times, we have boxed the Lord in into a limited situation or a limited persona because our words are driven by our high emotions and situation at that present moment. However we ought to see God as who He is and not based our understanding of Him on what happens in our lives. Job, as a man of work, stumbled in this area. Because he is a man of work, his achievements and what happens in his life confirms his knowledge of God however note that this may be a great basis since it is a live experience, we ought not to limit our understanding of God based on what happens in our lives or what we experience or witness. We ought to have faith. To believe in Him despite the odds, despite what we see doesn’t coincide with our knowledge of Him as written in His words. Job fell into the trap of limiting his understanding of God and ultimately, modified his knowledge of Him based on his own experience, which now limits who God is truly. All these were shown in his words in this chapter. He defined or spoke of God as a God who controls everything but gives mercy and grace to those HE only chooses to. Sounded like God in Job’s definition is “unfair”. Are we feeling the same today? Let us know redefine who God is based on our own experience, but let us know Him as He is as His words said so. Amen!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, powerful and amazing God. Thank You for this new and refreshing revelation from the words of Job. Lord I know that I have the capability of limiting You and who You are based on what I choose to believe in. Lord help me not to choose but allow me to fully grasp and understand who You really are as Your word said who You are. Help to know You not only thru my life’s experience but ultimately from what You said who You are. Help me Lord to understand that what happens to me does not define who You are. Because You are Greater than what happens to me. You are far more powerful and gracious than what is happening in my life. Help me Lord to get to know You better each day and not to limit my own understanding of You Jesus. May I not only know You thru Your words but as Your words come to life in my life, I will get to know You as I experience You as well. Open my eyes and heart and mind Lord that I may see and know the Real You and not the one I define You to be. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
