TITLE: The Triumph of the Jews

Scripture:  Esther 9:1 - 32

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ This chapter is a celebration and feasting of God’s people’s victory over Haman and their enemies.  I am amazed of God’s ways and how He is able to deliver us just in time.  Note that at this moment, the Jews were already losing hope becuase of the decree that Haman sent out and they were hoping to be delivered but at the back of their mind, they are always waiting for their execution, especially that the pole was set up in the town for their death.  I like what verse 1 that says “...on this day, the enemies of the Jews had hoped to overpower them...”, so at this point in time, the enemies of the Jews could have tasted victory already.  They were sure of their win and had hoped for the complete destruction of the Jews.  Sometimes, we feel like everything is falling apart and there is no hope because we see our enemies winning time and time again.  But you know what, God is always on time!  The same way that He was on time in saving the Jews during Esther’s time.  God saved His people at a time when His enemies were already tasting victory!  So do not lose hope when everything seems to be gone or everything failed, for God can snatched it away from our enemies and give it to us!  The same way He did for the Jews at this time.  God has always a better plan than we do and most of the time, we are easy to give up when we haven’t seen the biggest part yet and that’s when God’s hands swoop in to save us!  So just like Mordecai who didn’t lose hope, let’s put our trust in God to deliver us in every situation, whether we are already at our death, or we are still about to face judgment, or we are still walking towards it.  No matter where we are, whether the road seems to be leading towards our win or the opposite, we must trust God at all times to deliver us!

One thing that caught my attention in this chapter is the celebration of the feast of Purim.  This celebration was made to remember what God did for them against Haman and to gives gifts to one another and to the poor, all these are done in thanksgiving and remembrance of God’s deliverance of them from their enemy.  The question that stuck in my head is how come we no longer do this anymore?  God has delivered us many times and yes we thank God for it but then we forget.  The Jews made a decree to celebrate Purim, they made it their law to remember God’s greatness and deliverance yearly.  We ought to do the same.  To remind ourselves that we are alive and living and free because of what God gave and did for us.  We ought to celebrate it yearly and declare of it, not only during christmas holiday or holy week.  But I ‘m not talking only about God’s salvation, Jesus’ death and crucifixion and resurection to save all mankind but I believe that God has delivered us, personally, to certain enemies (like sickness, depression, debts, etc) and we all to celebrate our own Purim for that deliverance!  It’s a great idea that we ought to do, to remember God’s deliverance in our lives, give gifts to one another and give to the poor!  

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, great and awesome Lord.  Thank You for Your love and for always saving me from my enemies.  This idea of celebrating Purim seems grand but Lord You deserve it!  I pray that You help me make this a possibility in my life.  I want to celebrate my deliverance from all my enemies through Your hand yearly.  I want to set a date to celebrate it and give gifts to one another and to the poor.  I want to make this a truth in my life but Lord, my resources are limited and that’s why I come to You because You are the source of everything and I want to honor You in celebrating my life’s Purim!  Give me wisdom on how to make this a possibility every year!  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
