TITLE: Haman Impaled
Scripture: Esther 7:1 - 10
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ This chapter is short and sweet in favor of Esther and God’s people. On the second dinner that Esther prepared for the King and Haman, the King asked again for Esther’s request and offered her up to half of her kingdom because she has found favor from the King. This is when Queen Esther requested for her life and the life of her people spared from the decree to annihilate them. And we know the story, Haman was revealed as the source of this command and the king got mad at him. Before we go further, I want to mention, how esther made her request. Queen Esther who found favor in the eyes of men and the king, didn’t demand for anything she asked for, even if she had the right to do so. She remained humbled like a servant who was petitioning for her life. She was a Queen with honor and prestige yet she came to the king like a servant begging for her life. She did not allow her role, her authority or her position to make any demands for she knew that everything she got was a gift and nothing that she earned for. On another note, because Queen Esther knew that all she got was through God’s grace and nothing under her effort, she did not have anything to boast about. She did not have anything to be proud of or feel accomplished or better than anyone becuase everything she received were gifts from the Lord. So she remained humbled. Unlike Haman on the other hand, who got favor from the King as well but most likely, he achieved that favor through hardwork and earned the respect of the King and as you can see, he was proud of what he accomplished and boast of it to his friends. So we can see the major difference between these two individuals who both gained huge favor in the eyes of the King.
Going back to Queen Esther, as mentioned she did not demand anything even if she had the right considering she was a Queen, nor did she accused anyone without proof. Also note that Queen Esther served first before requesting from the King. Many times, when we asked for something, it is best to serve and please the person you need to ask from rather than just demand of it from the person. If you know of two people who seeks something from you, would you want to give the person’s request to the one who pleased you first or to the other who just asked it blantantly from you? I don’t know with you, but human as I am, I would prefer to give it to someone who tried to please me knowing that he wants to ask something from me. Some call if “sip-sip” but in reality, it is a fact, it is not being “sip-sip”, the truth is, man would always want to give to those who pleases him. It is our nature and Esther knew that. So she served the King and pleased him before she spoke of her request.
Moving on, we seen in this chapter that Haman begged for his life from the Queen, yet when the king saw him falling on the couch where the Queen is sitting, the King thought that he was trying to do something bad to the Queen and got mad. Note that Haman did not even had the chance to explain himself, his face was covered and he was removed from the palace. Here’s something that we ought to understand, time will come when the Lord will no longer listen to us no matter what our explanations are because of the sins we committed. The Bible tells us that time will come when man calls God, “Lord Lord,” but God will deny him. And I believe this is what happened to Haman, he represented a believer and favored by the Lord who was consumed by his pride and anger towards his brother (Mordecai); he did what God told him to do and was successful doing it but he took the credit and enjoyed the fame. And the time came that he didnt even have a chance to explain or say sorry to the King anymore. Let us learn from Haman’s life and never wait for that moment to come in our lives. Let us become like Esther who remained humble and a servant to the King despite of the favor and position she was given.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to become like Esther and not like Mordecai. Here You revealed two types of believers: One that was doubtful and afraid but with beauty in and out who received favor from You - she relied in prayer and fasting. The other was confident and skillful and was able to accomplish every task You have given - yet he took the credit and boasted of his achievements, in short, he relied upon himself. Lord I know You have given me knowledge and skills and talents and many times, I have been tempted to believe in myself and rest upon my skills but Lord help me to always remember that everythign I have comes from You and so there’s no point of trusting in my own ability becuase even if I don’t have the skills when I have You, I can definitely do all things through You. The same way that even if I have all the knowledge and skills but when I don’t have You, everything else can still fail. Thank You fro trusting me with this learning capabilities and understanding and skills, but Lord know that I would rather have You than having it all on my own. Thank You Jesus for entrusting with such skills and talents may I use it to benefit You, like Esther used her beauty in and out, to save Your people. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
