TITLE: Job
Scripture: Job 6:1 - 30
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Chapter 6 shows Job’s response to Eliphaz’ accusation of sin on him. You can sense the gravity and heaviness of every word that comes out of Job in this chapter. Words spoke in great suffering, anguish and pain. Job revealed in his words the true nature of his friends in the words of Eliphaz. The first verses of this chapter spoke of Job’s great sufferings and desire for God to take away his life now so that he will die with the joy that he hold on to the Lord until his last breath (verse 10). Clearly, when Job spoke the words in verse 10, he knew that he is at the border line of his faithfulness that’s why he sought to lose his life now that he has not denied the word of God yet. Here we can see that Job knows himself. He knows his capabilities and his character and limitations. But clearly as Job continued, we’re seeing a changed of mood and condition. Verse 11 showed that JOb is losing hope and very helpless (Already in the depression stage...seeking death instead of life). Job’s experience written in this book is a detailed account of the process that one goes thru from the clutches and afflictions of “Pity”.
Verse 14, Job pointed out one of the reasons of his hopelessness. He had friends in the Lord, who he possibly grew up with in God, yet in his worst condition, they were unable to do anything to help him - not even comfort him. Instead they washed their hands and pointed his finger on him, accusing him of sinning against God for getting this punishment - clearly, it was the easiest explanation they can think of and Eliphaz went with that explanation without listening or taking into account Job’s integrity and character. That’s why Job said that his friends are undependable for they withhold what he needed from them most, KINDNESS (verse 14). Sometimes, the best thing we can give to our friends who are going thru tough times is our kindness; not out lecture, not our version of the truth, not our version of solutions, but a simple act of kindness will definitely go a long way in those who are suffering deeply.
Job then continued in verse 24, telling his friends to teach him instead of accusing him of doing wrong. Job challenged his friends to show him his error so he may correct it if indeed he did wrong. Job’s words at the end of this chapter is heartbreaking. He was pleading to his friends to be kind to him and consider him as the person they know, one that is righteous and blameless; one that fears the Lord and shun evil. What a touching scene was this for a man to beg his friends to see him as who he really is and not his situation. This error is common to man and so we all must be cautious to always see the person and not his status or condition. God sees us (the person) and not what we have or don’t have so let’s seek God’s view of others every day.
Prayer;
Lord Jesus, what an amazing revelation You showed me today in JOb’s words. I am so humbled and touched of Job’s condition to even fight for his integrity despite of what he is already going thru. He is already fighting physically for what the devil has inflicted in his body, now, he had to fight for his true self to the people he thought knew him deeply. What a painful experience but a very educational one. Lord help me to see others the way You see them. Having my eyes opened to their true self or true nature rather than whatever they masked themselves with. Lord give me wisdom to deal with Your people with the love and compassion they deserve. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
