TITLE: Zophar
Scripture: Job 11:1 - 20
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ It was Zophar, the third friend, time to speak. His words were more certain of the accusation they brought up against Job. When Eliphaz and Bildad injected the thought of JOb sinning, the point was clear yet they spoke with caution but Zophar on the other hand, sounded like he made up his mind of as to what caused the sufferings of Job and it was definitely his sins! Also note that all three friends, were trying to answer the question “why?” in the case of Job. And the only humanly reason they thought of was that Job must have sinned to be suffering like this for God will not allow a righteous man to suffer. So their conclusion was final without hearing what Job had to say. But note that these three men who were supposed to be representing God to Job, showed God as an executioner or judge rather than a God who loves His people or a God with mercy, especially in Job’s case who knows in and out that he did not do anything wrong. Zophar’s words were a bit more sounding challenging, what I mean is that, his words were spoken like challenging Job’s personality, knowledge, skills, etc. Vs 7, Zophar said, “Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?” It’s as if he was saying to Job, “Are you god to know everything? Are you all knowing and all powerful to only believe what you know?” It was more of an attack on Job’s character. So Eliphaz attacked Job’s integrity (morality), then Bildad attacked Job’s knowledge of God, and here we have Zophar attacking Job’s character. So all three men were sure that Job sinned and since Job denies to have done wrong, the argument sprung up from that. But all men, including Job, were missing the point. It is not important to know “why”, “how”, “what” or “where”. The most important question in this situation is “Who”. Who is God? Who is causing the troubles? Who will save Job? Who will remove the sufferings? They have been focus on the “why” that it brought them to argue with another and missed out on what they should have been helping Job to realize, that God is God and He may have allowed this but HE has a purpose and He will save him. That’s the comfort that Job needed and the understanding that he required to fully hold on to his faith in the Lord. But his friends failed him in this area. Everyone spoke for themselves, busy defending the logic they presented to one another and forgetting the important aspect which is the ultimate solution, God!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for another eye-opening revelation. I am guilty of this Lord. Many times, words just come out and even though it sounded good or intelligent, it was not what is important or what needs to be discussed. I know i have done this many times and I am sorry Lord. I know that that is not what You want and how things should be handled especially when another is suffering. Lord help me to be a real friend to someone but at the same time a true ambassador of Christ. Help me to choose the right words to say or the right things to do to ensure that I portray these role correctly in my life Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
