TITLE: Prologue
Scripture: Job 1:1 - 22
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ The first chapter of Job revealed a lot of things... let's look at Job first. We know that he is a wealthy man, established, powerful and blessed with 7 sons and 3 daughters. The Bible even said that he was the greatest man among all the people of the East. These were all true because he was blameless and upright! He feared God and shunned evil. So even in the first 3 verses of the chapter, the Bible already teaches us that a blameless and upright man who fear God and shun evil is blessed in all aspect of life, physical, financial, spiritual, emotional, etc...
Verses 4 to 5 showed us that his children sometimes throw partys and would be drinking and eating during the period of feasting and Job would always find time to arrange for his kids to be purified. So early in the morning he would sacrifice a burnt offering for each of them thinknig that perhaps they have sinned. Now Job was not being negative or a bad father, only thinking of what his children did wrong. The truth is when there's celebration with drinking, there's likely something bad to happen that's why Job instead of waiting for the bomb to blow up...he takes actions ahead. He burnt offerings for each of his child to purify them whether or not they sinned or no. Now that shows a loving father, don't you think? He is a man who is prepared and who sees things at a bigger picture. He knows that man by nature is sinful and to have this knowledge only shows his intimacy with God for this truth only comes from the Lord and no one else.
I love the next verses, specifically verse 8...It says there that the Lord spoke to Satan about Job. Now remember Genesis 6, when God decided to destroy man because of their evil ways and save Noah only? I was amazed of man's importance to God that we can actually hurt him so much to feel regret of creating us. I was touched and I felt a little pain that we, humans, have the capability of hurting the Lord so much....but you know what, the same is true of man's capability of pleasing and making God proud! Job made God so please and proud of him that God, Himself, was the one who spoke of Job to Satan. Wow! And during this conversation, I can just imagine how God was like boasting of Job to Satan. Wow! What a great privilege!
What happened next amazed me of how God stood by Job when Satan tried to question Job's allegiance. Look at verse 12, God's reply to Satan is firm and confident becuase God knows Job's heart. What an amazing scenario this was that God defended Job against the allegations or accusations of Satan. Now that's what God does for us! He protects and defends us everyday, even when we don't deserve it!
We all know what happened next, Job experienced the worst of his life, losing. He got hits in his finances (business), he lost loyal servants (friends), he lost his family. So Job was tested in his wealth, family, and friends. but in all these, instead of complaining and cursing, he praised the Name of the Lord! Now that's a true disciple, don't you think? Job was steadfast and faithful to God! The question is, are we the same?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for Your amazing love! Lord thank You for letting me know that I have that capability to make You proud of me. I am touched to know that this is somethign that You are joyful and happy for. So Lord help me to always please You like Job. So that I may be someone You can boast of and proud of. Lord I want to make You proud. Help me to become blameless and upright; one who fears You more and shun evil. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
