TITLE: Why Noah

Scripture:  Genesis 6:1 - 22

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Why Noah?

1) Righteous (vs 9)

How to be righteous?  What do we need to be righteous? Do we need...

a) Knowledge of everything (MIND) - Noah didn't know much... in fact, he only knew what God told him, apart from that, nothing more.

b) Strength, skills or talents (Body) - Noah was not even a carpenter, he was a farmer and was asked to build an ark.  Experts say that Noah could have not done it because it is impossible to build such a huge ark without the necessary tools (machines to bend the wood or shape them).  It is only through a miracle that it was made

c) Likable or pleasing (Heart) - When Noah did what is right, he gained more enemies than anyone else.  In fact, it was like him against the world.  He could have hurt others too, especially his friends who tried to tell him to stop doing this crazy idea of building an ark.  Or maybe he could have hurt his family too?  Making them the joke of the town was not easy and it is more likely that Noah's action hurt or cause pain to others too.

So in all three aspect, the answer to the question of whether we need them (the three) to be righteous is NO!

So what do we need then?  Hebrews 11:7 says that it is only through faith that Noah was made righteous!  We need to BELIEVE!

2) Walk with God faithfully (vs 9)

Walking with God requires communication but more importantly our part to Listen!  Noah's journey or story started with God speaking to him so Noah listened and believed!  

In our walk with God, we want to anticipatet his word or message to us on a daily basis.  We have to wait upon Him.  It doesn't mean that we need to stop everythign and just wait upon God.  But instead, as we go on with our usual tasks, we ought to anticipate or expect for His word so we ought to listen carefully!

We ought to talk to God as well no matter what the circumstances are.  Whether good or bad... I can just imagine Noah, while building the ark and as the people mocked him, he is at one side, talked to God, telling Him how hurt he is of what they are saying about him or how he wants so much to throw the hammer on them...etc.

The point is we make God part of our daily lives!  Live or walk with Him each day!

3) Obedience (vs 22)

Obedience is not an easy thing but know that obedience starts at home.  Kids learn to obey from parents that's because man by nature obeys those they trust.  It is hard to trust someone you don't know so we ought to know God then our trust develops.

Just like the military, when they are given their mission, they don't have all the details.  In fact, they don't even know sometimes why they do what they do but they do it anyway, because they trust the military, or their superintendent or corporal, etc.  

We ought to do the same to God.  Obedience is made easy with Trust!

So we ought to listen to God, have faith in His words and trust Him.  It is a process or a cycle that we ought to practice in our lives each day!
