TITLE: Mordecai Persuades Esther to Help

Scripture:  Esther 4:1 - 17 

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Mordecai clearly played a great part in the life of Esther.  As I learn deeper, I realize that his role was critical in Esther’s path.  It was his teachings, his values and beliefs that molded Esther to be the woman that she was, which caught favor in the eyes of everyone including the king.  This chapter showed me that not only was Mordecai a great parent, teacher, “discipler”, example to Esther, he also sees the work of the Lord despite of the trouble that they are into.  When all people were wailing and weeping for the news of execution and destruction of the Jews, Mordecai was also saddened with this news but he saw a solution.  He saw God’s work and love for His people when everyone else lingered in the thought of their destruction.  Mordecai saw a purpose for Esther’s enthronement as Queen.  Clearly, Mordecai must be closed to God to have such an open eye for God’s works in a time like that.  When everyone lost hope and waited for their death, Mordecai saw God’s hand for them.  Now that takes faith, that takes a close and personal relationship with the Lord, that takes hope and love, that takes a strong foundation and belief to the One true God! Thank God for Mordecai.  In retrospect, I asked myself, who are the Mordecais of my life?  I ought to thank them and appreciate what they have done in my life that led me into who I am today.  And in addition to that the 2nd question is, who are my Esthers today?  Now these two questions are valuable and I believe, should be taken seriously for we ought to give back to those before us and pay it forward to those after us.

Now speaking of Esther, she needed a little push or reminder or wisdom from her “discipler”.  Clearly, Esther was already enjoying the life in the palace and was not aware of what was happening to her people.  She has forgotten to check upon them and see what she can do to help but more importantly, she failed to see her purpose in the palace.  When Mordecai came to the gate weeping and was on a sackcloth, Esther was in great distress and her first action was to send clothes to him, possibly so Mordecai can come inside the palace and they could talk for no one can enter in the palace on a sackcloth.  But when Mordecai refused, that’s when Esther got more intrigued of what’s happening and asked her Eunuch to get more information.  Now when that happened, it was only then that Esther found out about Haman’s doing.  Now, Esther was Queen but she didn’t know what’s happening to her people.  It’s possible that Esther took this position without really understanding what her position means for her people, so she didn’t understand her purpose in the palace.  So when Mordecai asked her to go to the king and beg, instead of love, care and pity for her people, she felt worried for her life.  Instead of feeling passionate and focus on the solution to save her people, she was more worried for her life.  I don’t mean to ruin Esther’s good record and honestly, I like her story but the more I read about this story, the more I see Esther’s weaknesses and Mordecai’s strength.  Thank God for Mordecai in Esther’s life.  I love Mordecai’s response to Esther in verse 12.  I love that Mordecai believed that God will deliver them whether it’s thru Esther or thru someone else.  If we looked into mordecai’s response further, we can conclude that Mordecai played an important role in Esther realizing her purpose in the palace and for Esther to make herself available to be used by God.  Mordecai pushed Esther to see her full potential in God.

One thing I like about Esther is that she respects Mordecai and obeys him.  So despite of her fears and worries, she made sure she is ready to face the King by getting the support she needed and these are prayer and fasting.  Esther was truly brave and courageous and she got that from praying and fasting to God.  So clearly, the book of Esther as I read it, from chapter 1 to 4, I see Esther’s weaknesses yet God gave her the courage to do what she did and God used her for a majestic purpose.  Hallelujah!  All glory belong to God!

Prayer;

Lord Jesus what an amazing revelation!  I am so grateful for a wonderful time and learning today.  Lord You are truly amazing! You are great and awesome!  No one is like You Jesus and I am so thankful that I know You and that You chose me.  Lord Thank You for showing me the real Esther, truly, there is nothing to boast about her except You.  Thank You for Mordecai because his life teaches me to have strong foundation and faith in You.  I am amazed of how You connect everything Lord.  Now, i understand why the book is called Esther, because as readers our focus is Esther and when we looked into her life, there’s really nothing to boast about her but You.  She showed many weakneses in her story but in the end, it was You who gave her the courage and bravery to do a majestic purpose.  Mordecai on the other hand was a stronger character, wise and good but studying his life, I can see that he was the greater one yet he was the supporter, he was the wiser one, yet he was just the adviser, he was the good one yet he was just the teacher and not the hero of the story - Mordecai character depicts true humility.  God, You have taught me so much in the lives of both Esther and Mordecai and I am overwhelmed with so much joy because of these new revelations today!  Thank You very much Lord.  Help me to apply and make Your word alive in my life today.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
