TITLE: What Happens In Your Journey Towards the Fulfillment of God’s Commands In Your Life

Scripture:  Genesis 13

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ What happens during our walk with God in obedience to His calling for us:

1) Building of our Faith - God's directon daily builds our trust and faith in Him.

Verses 3 - 4

From Negev to bethel to the place between bethel and ai - if we read it again, we can note that Abram was sent back to where he was before...They've been traveling for so long and now they're back to bethel or the place between bethel and ai.  It's like they're just walking in circles and nowhere to go...yet the reality is, God has a purpose why they had to go back... Abram's faith is being strengthened every day and as you can see, Abram called on the Name of the Lord.  Maybe Abram realized that they're traveling in circle and so He called on the Name of the Lord... so instead of feeling discouraged or lost, He called out to God.  

There will be times in our walk with God that we feel like we are going nowhere...it feels like we're back from the start or we don't know exactly where we are going next...but instead of feeling discouraged or tired or hurt, be like Abram, call upon the Name of the Lord!  Jeremmiah 33:3 says  "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know."

2) Building of Our Character - specifically "Humility"

Verses 5 - 13

The more we walk with God daily, the more we understand and see God's works in our lives.  We then realize that everything happens because of Him and so we understand our "smallness" because of God's "greatness" in our lives.  

Abram and Lot's herders got into a fight - they're fighting for land space.  Both of their masters were being blessed greatly by the Lord and they're arguing for space.  Abram who was the head of the whole family because he is the eldest, and the one called by God, showed great humility when instead of demanding the space he needed, decided to provide a solution.  He suggested for him and lot to separate ways because the great wealth  that God has blessed them with are becoming too big for the land they are in.  Now, instead of choosing the best land himself, Abram chose to allow Lot make the land of his choice first.  Abram was the eldest, he was the one in direct contact with God, doesn't he supposed to get to choose the best?  But in this story, we see that Abram showed great humility and allowed Lot to make the choice. 

As we live and walk with God daily, we learn to understand that nothing we have or own was earned on our own and we see that we do not have anything to demand for except the ones that were given to us by the Lord.  Only God determines what's ours and He alone has the right for everything.  Even if I own this, I am mere steward of this because the true owner is the Lord.  So it was easy for Abram to let go and not hold on to material things.  He knew that he is not the owner of it...but God alone.  When you recognize that you have nothing and you are nothing without Christ...it will be very difficult NOT to be humble!

3) Building of our wealth and our authority on earth through Christ - This speaks of not only finances, but especially with our power,influence and leadership.

Verses 14 - 17

When we rid ourselves of anything or anyone that is not of God's, only then can God expand our power, wealth and authority!  It was only when Lot left that God spoke to Abram and gave him a tangible vision of the land he promised him.  And not only that, God did not put any limit on that land, power and leadership promises that He gave Abram...infact, it was only Abram who can limit God's promise to him.  As you can see, God said look around from where you are, to the north and south to the east and west, all the land that you see, i give to you and your offspring forever.  In verse 17, God even said to Abram to go and walk thru the length and breadth of the land He is giving him so in short, the wealth, power and authority we have here on earth in Christ can only be limited by us!  Not the devil, not God, but us!
