TITLE: The Call Of Abraham
Scripture: Hebrews 11:8 - 17
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

1) Abraham sacrificed his preferred future
According to Bible scholars, Abraham was a merchant (businessman) and was a wealthy man even before he was called by God. He must have his own personal goals and dreams that he wants to achieve. He could have dreamt to expand his business to other areas or other products but when God called him, he left all of those to follow God even though he didn't know where he was going. What a faith!
2) Abraham sacrificed his comfort zone
The city of Ur (where Abraham came from), it was one of the great cities during that time. It was progressive and prosperous too. And when Abraham laid eyes on Canaan, he saw a desert and people living in tents. He traded the big city to a desert; he traded his big mansion to a tent. Think about the travel he had to go thru. It was years of travel and every night, they have to pitch in their tent and then take it off again in the morning when they continue travelling. Think about the hardship and the inconvenience it brought them as they journey towards the promise land yet when Abraham saw Shechem, he was overjoyed that he built an altar and worshipped the Lord! All of his big soft bed, the strong foundation of his mansion or the convenience of his home, he traded them all for a city that God is the founder and architect. Note that when Abraham first saw the city it was nothing compared to Ur. It was a desert and people live in tent while in Ur, it was one of the progressive city and the center of all trade, yet Abraham sacrificed all of those for the land God promised him.
3) Abraham sacrificed his son
The only thing that Abraham asked God of was a son and now he was tested to sacrifice him too. What a cruel thought or plan if you think about it...but the truth is, God was just testing Abraham to see if he is still the love of his life after God has given him what he wanted for so long.
Note that everything man had to sacrifice as he/she obeys God's calling, God gives back even more, sometimes, God returns what he has taken and sometimes, God replaced them with something better but definitely, everything lost in the journey of obedience to God's calling is gained back. Hallelujah!
