TITLE: For the Director of Music, With Stringed Instruments, According to Sheminith. A Psalm of David
Scripture: Psalm 6:1 - 10
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ This psalm that David wrote possibly was written when David did something wrong. He started out asking God not to rebuke him in anger or discipline him in his wrath. This tells me that David may have done something that could cause the Lord to be angry and would want to rebuke and discipline him. But note that David did not say do not rebuke me or do not discipline me...he asked God not to rebuke him in His anger or discipline him in His wrath. So David knew that he needs to be rebuked or disciplined by God for possibly something he did wrong, but just not in His anger and wrath. So David understood the importance of discipline and rebuke fromt he Lord.
In verse 2 to 3, he asked God for mercy for he is faint and healing for his bones are in agony, then david proclaimed that his soul is in deep anguish. Now, clearly, david was suffering from the clutches of sin in his life. He was suffering not because of God's discipline but because of the mistake he did. He was guilty and his conscience is eating him up. So he asked God to have mercy on him and heal him because he knew that only God can do so. I also want to note that (let say David did make a mistake) David did something wrong and all sin made is a sin against God. So he sinned against God but he was bold enough to come and call upon him despite of his wrongdoing. Now, that's something that God gave us privilege of as His son and daughter. Again, this is only possible because of God's great love for us that we are able to approach or call upon Him even if we made a sin against Him. Thank You Lord!
Verses 4 -5, we see that David plead to the Lord to deliver him and save him not because of what he did or what he did in the past but only because of God's unfailing love for him. Again, we ought to learn from David. He knew his worth and he knew that everything he did was of no value on his own. David recognize his worthlessness and nothingness after he did something wrong against God. Humility I should say! A king who fought thousands of men and conquered many lands with the direction and leading of the Lord was now on his knees seeking for deliverance himself from the person who he betrayed. Wow! What an irony but David knew it was the only way. He knew that only God can save him from whatever his heart is in agony with.
In verse 6 - 7, he spoke of his struggle; his life of groaning; his life of uncertainties and worries because of his betrayal against the Lord whom his power and strength comes from. This is literally what every child of God goes through when he or she sinned but the choice we do next will be critical after going through this groaning or struggle. David chose to run before the God whom he betrayed and sought mercy in humility. Others decide to shake it off and continue living with this agony in their hearts until they become numb to it. So which would you choose?
Verses 8 - 1o, David rebuked evil from him and took a stand of faith that the Lord has heard his weeping. David believe that God heard him and accepts his prayer - all in faith - and took a stand against evil. Then he turned the table around and proclaimed shame and anguish to his enemies. In reality, david was the one who was feeling shameful and in anguish but while praying to God, he took a stand and believe that his prayer has been heard and turned the table around, passing the shame and anguish to his enemies. Now that's victory!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus amazing God and Almighty Father. I am amazed of Your wondrous words and works. You truly know what I am going through every moment of my life and You just know what to say to lift my spirit up. Thank You for this wonderful message - reminding me that in prayer, there must be faith! We must first believe on the things we ask for from You. Lord thank You for reminding me that I am the reason why the devil can condemn me coz I condemn myself from every wrongdoing I make and to release myself from this condemnation, I must believe that I am free and that You have forgiven me, the same way that David believe that You heard his cry for mercy and accepted his prayer. Thank You for the reminders Lord. Give me wisdom and favor each day to face it with full confidence in You and joy that comes from You alone. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
