TITLE: For the Director of Music, For Pipes, A Psalm of David
Scripture: Psalm 5:1 - 12
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ This is another David's Psalms that spoke of the Grace of God upon his life. Looking at this chapter deeper, David opened the chapter with a request from the Lord but I want us to take note that the request to God to listen to his words and hearing his cry for help, only implies that David spoke words to God and cried out for help to Him. Sometimes, we expect God to help and listen to us but the problem is, we don't talk to Him. We expect Him to just swoop in and do His thing, without us doing our part of communicating to our God. David reminds us in this chapter, at the beginning of Psalm 5, that we ought to communicate and talk to God.
I love that David spoke of God hearing his voice and him laying everything towards the King and waiting patiently. In this waiting time, God check all things including ourselves. And as David noted in verses 4 - 6, God is not please with wickedness or arrogant ones. They cannot stand in His presence and God hate liars! So we ought to check ourselves when we come to the Lord because HE is holy.
Another important thing that captured my attention is written in verse 7, David didn't specifically say that he is not like those wicked people or those liars, in fact, his words said that it is only by God's great love can David come into His house and in reverence he bowed down toward God's holy temple. So if we analyze deeper, there's nothing here that David indicated that his righteousness allowed him to enter or come to God's house. It was God's great love and Grace that we are able to do so. Let us always understand that and let us never trust on our own effort.
David continued on in verse 8, asking God to lead him to His righteousness...not David's own righteousness but to God's righteousness! David sought for God's path as he asked God to make His way straight before him. David asked for justice to the wicked and joy and singing for those who take refuge in Him. Are we taking refuge in God? Do we love His Name and rejoice in Him? Because David confirmed it with great certainty that the Lord bless the righteous (not our own self righteous but God's righteousness) and surround us with His favor as with a shield. Let us take the path to God's righteousness then an assurance of God's blessings will be upon us who follow His righteousness and His great favor surrounding us like shield from everything not of Him! Hallelujah! God protects His own! Amen!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, what a great and amazing new wisdom of Your righteousness. Lord remind me every day that I am to seek Your righteousness and not my own and help me understand that it is by Your great love for me and Your grace that I am able to live and come into Your Holy presence. Lord help me to always communicate with You because it is key to our relationship and before You can hear or listen to me, I must speak the words first. Help me Lord to have joy in Your Name and in Your presence. Give me wisdom to choose the right decisions daily - this is decisions based on Your righteousness and not mine Lord. I entrust everything to You Lord. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
