TITLE: A Psalm of David When He Fled From His Son Absalom
Scripture: Psalm 3:1 - 8
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ At a time when David faced one of the worst times of his life, having your own son rebel against you but we're not talking about a young and teenager rebelling against his/her parents. We're talking about betrayal and murder rebellion of a son to a father. Absalom was one of David's first few sons, if i'm not mistaken, he was either the 3rd or the 4th in the family. He was not next in line to the throne but he was definitely one of the royalties. However becuase of greed, pride and love of power, he went on murdering his other siblings to get the throne, even to a point of killing his own father to overthrow him from his throne. Wow, what a hard and difficult situation. I cannot even imagine the struggle that David was going through. One part of him knows that he had to fight for his kingdom but another part of his, his father side, wants to save his son, the son who is his enemy. What a very conflicting situation David was in during those times. Yet despite of these struggles in his heart, he wrote this psalm, this chapter...and his words spoke of his faith and trust in the Lord Almighty to deliver him and take control of his difficult situation. David clearly knew the truth of his existence and that everything he is or was or will be is because of the Lord. He said that he calls and the Lord answers, he sleeps and wakes up because the Lord sustains him. Despite of the difficult circumstances that he is in, he spoke of the truth of not fearing for the Lord is with him in that time. He called upon his God and asked to be delivered. His heart was assured that his deliverance comes from the Lord alone. May we have the same assurance and certainty in our lives - that no matter how difficult or hard or impossible our situation is, may we always remember that when we call out to God, He answers and our deliverance comes from Him alone. May we always remember that He is the only One who sustains us every day and we are alive or we are what or where we are now, because of Him.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus such amazing words from Your son David - truly an inspiration and a role model to follow. Lord I am guilty of worry, of panicking and I know that many times I kept thinking of the best solutions on my problem on my own but Lord, always remind me that everything happens for a reason. Help me to remember that I am not alone in every trials I face. In fact, each trial I encounter is an opportunity for You to show Your hand at work in my life. Help me to remember that You are the source of my life and You alone sustains me daily. And when things go tough in my life or it's becoming difficult, help me to realize that YOu are always in control and all I need to do is trust You fully and have faith in You. Give me this guidance daily Lord that I may make the right choices in my life each day. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
