TITLE: A Shiggaion David, which he sang to the Lord Concerning Cush, a Benjamite

Scripture:  Psalm 7:1 - 17

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Chapter 7 is a psalm that David wrote and sang when he was in the middle of war against Cush.  David, no matter how big or small his enemies were during that time, he always called upon the Lord for deliverance.  And we ought to do the same in our lives today.  No matter how big or small the situation or the circumstances we are facing, we ought to face God and seek for His help because, like David, we ought to remember that every victory comes from the Lord whether small or great.  So here we see David at the start of his psalm, seeking refuge in God, asking Him to save and deliver him from all who pursue him.  He acknowledge that without God's help, his enemies will tear him apart like a lion and rip him to pieces and no one to rescue him.  Take note that David understood that only God has the power to save him.  He believe in this fully and did not seek for anyone's hand for help.  Though, it doesn't mean that we do not accept help from others but we ought to recognize that any help whether visible or supernatural, it all comes from the Lord.  So all glory must be returned back to Him who deserves it all.

David also showed that he is just in this prayer.  He prayed to God for deliverance yet he said that if he has guilt in his hand to allow his enemy to trample his life to the ground and make him sleep in the dust.  Now, clearly, David doesn't want to die yet he was confident to give his life in the name of justice.  He knew that if he was guilty, he deserves to be judged.  And so David took that responsibility with the certainty that whether he loses his life that day, God will take care of him afterwards. What such faith!

In verses 6 - 9, David called upon the Lord to rise up in His anger against the rage of his enemies.  And David plead for justice.  And look at how David illustrated this battle, he spoke of a battle where His King is assembled around His people enthroned over them on high like a judge.  And He asked God to vindicate him according to his righteousness, his integrity and end the violence of the wicked and secure all righteous.  David knew that he walked in righteousness with God and so when he asked God to vindicate him according to his righteousness, he was holding on to God's righteousness as his so that's why he was confident to speak of such words.  Let us always remember this.  Our righteousness on our own is useless but God's righteousness, He gave to us as a gift and we can take it as our own!

David continued on by highlighting who God is...his shield who will saves those with upright hearts and He is also the righteous judge who displays His wrath to the troublemakers and evil doers.  So David spoke of God as the judge of all things and evil trembles upon hearing His presence alone. David ended this psalm with thanksgiving to the Lord because of His righteousness that will save him and he will sing praises of the Name of the Lord.  

Here we see again the level of faith of David in his prayers.  He started seeking refuge in God and justice.  He recognize that only God can save and deliver him and even unafraid to give his life if he is found guilty - he was confident because his righteousness is not his own but God's that's why he was able to speak this (again this requires great faith).  Then David portrayed God as a God of justice who comes to bring just to all according to His righteousness and vindicating those that are His because of His righteousness given to His children.  Then lastly, he sang and gave thanks to God as if his requests has been answered even if it's not yet.  But his level of faith that God will hear his prayers was strong that by the end of his prayer, he claimed victory from his enemies and received answered prayer!  Now we should practice the same thing in our own prayer life.  Amen!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, what an incredible lesson from David about prayer.  Lord I pray and I speak words that sometimes are empty but today, You have taught me to pray in faith.  Prayer is not just communication or talking to You like a friend, but prayer must be spoken in faith like David.  Believing every word to be true even as it is spoken.  Help Lord to practice this as I know that this is a powerful word that must be applied in my life.  Give me understanding to do what is right even in my communication with You.  Thank You for Your great love Lord and for always reminding me of these things.  I believe in Your words and I Believe that I can pray in faith so whatever I ask it shall be done as I ask in Your Name.  Thank You Jesus.  In Jesus' Name, Amen!
