TITLE: Tattenai’s Letter to Darius
Scripture: Ezra 5:1 - 17
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ After some time that the building of the temple was put to stop, God is still faithful to His word and no man or circumstances can put a stop to it from coming to pass. Here we see that despite of the declarations of the previous kings (xerxes and antharxerxes) made to put a stop to the building, the elders or the people continued to build the temple as obedience to God’s calling for their lives. But note that only a few left who were faithful on their calling. Tattenai wrote a letter to King Darius about what’s happening. We don’t know the intentions of Tattenai of writing the letter...it could be that he was against it or it could be that he was saving himself and making sure that king is aware of what’s happening so he won’t be placed in a tough spot later on. Whatever his intentions were, he wrote a letter to King Darius detailing what’s happening in Jerusalem. The funny thing is that, Tattenai’s letter spoke of a decree from King Cyrus about this building of the temple in Jerusalem, which led to the finding of the decree and confirming King Cyrus’ command or desire in the first place. Amazing! I mean, here we see Tattenai writing a letter to Darius, though we may not know his true intentions but with the line of questioning used as written in verses 3 - 5, I can sense that Tattenai was not aboard completely to what the people of Judah are doing. He questioned to whose authority they were doing this, which for me indicates his lack of trust to the people. So I guess it’s safe to conclude that he was not 100% on board of what the people of Judah are doing that’s why he wrote a letter to King DArius, which in the end led to the search of King Cyrus’ decree, which then led to the completion of the building of the temple! Amazing! I mean, God truly planned everything ahead. There’s a reason why it was King Cyrus who had the desire to build the temple. There was also a reason why King Cyrus had to make a decree of his command regarding this. It was all made to perfectly fit for this day and time when Tattenai questioned the building of the temple. Again all for the completion of the building of the Temple for God or in short, the fulfillment of God’s spoken words! Halellujah! We can see that despite of everything the devil did to put a stop to the building of the temple, he wasnt really able to put a stop to it because the people continued to work even after there was a declaration to stop the building from other kings. So the devil thought he was cunning to have Tattenai checked the people of Judah and wrote a letter to King Darius. It seemed like Tattenai was “sumbong” or “tattletale” to the King about what the people of Judah are doing. But God is a great and marvelous God who is always ahead of everything. He used that letter to formally conduct a search for the decree of Cyrus which led to the formal construction of the temple! Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus You are Great and Amazing and Marvelous and Wonderful and Awesome and... I’m really running out of words now but You know what I mean and feel and how I see You Lord. Your greatness You reveal to me each day and I am truly in awe of Your wonders. Lord I want to thank You for the daily opportunity to get to know You more and more. I am so blessed to see Your Glory, Power, and Love poured to every word I read each day. Lord thank You because You are truly in control. You set up things ahead and everything, all the little details, are done and work together for the completion of Your word. Thank You Jesus because I am secured and assured in You presence and plans because You are in control always. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
