TITLE: The Remaining Kings of Judah

Scripture:  2 Chronicles 36:1 - 23

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Josiah’s death in chapter 35 of 2 Chronicles was mourned by the people.  His battle with Necho (Egypt’s Pharaoh) was the end of him as he didn’t listen to Necho when he said that it was God who instructed him to battle another city.  When Josiah died, his son Jehoahaz became king but only for 3 months, for Necho dethroned him and placed his brother, Eliakim as the new king.  Necho changed Eliakim’s name to Jehoiakim and Jehoiakim reigned for 11years and did evil in the eyes of God.  Nebuchadnezzar king of babylon attacked him and captured him.  Jehoiachin became king next to Jehoiakim but only for 3 months and 10days.  He also did evil in the eyes of God.  Nebuchadnezzar sent for Jehoiachin and made Zedekiah, Jehoiachin’s uncle, king of Israel.  And the evil ways continued.  Jeremiah tried to warn Zedekiah but he did not listen and did not humble himself before God.  He hardened his heart and the people became more and more unfaithful.

What captured my heart in this chapter is verse 15, here we see God’s great love for men.  He kept sending them messengers after messengers to send word to repent but despite of God’s reminders, men did not listen.  So the wrath of God came and ruined the nation and exiled every one of them.  Even after these tragic happenings, I noticed that the end of the chapter is a new hope.  The chapter ended with King Cyrus of Persia whom God place in power and also placed a desire in his heart to build a temple for the Lord.  In the end, hope came.  In the end, a new beginning started.  In the end, God’s love is still greater than His warth.  Hallelujah!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, Amazing God and loving Father.  Thank You because You never get tired of sending Your messengers to the people and You never get tired of giving us hope and a new start.  Thank You Lord for Your great love.  May the stories of the later kings become a lesson for me and to understand that life is still better with You for Your great love is so much bigger and wider and deeper than we could ever imagine.  Thank You Lord for Your love.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
