TITLE: Rebuilding the Temple and the Altar
Scripture: Ezra 3:1 - 13
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ What really caught my attention in this chapter is the fact that the people of Judah after settling in the land, started building the altar so they can offer morning and evening sacrifices for God before they start their mission (which is to build God’s temple). This clearly shows the people’s recognition of God and His power and glory and love for them. Also note that the people started building the altar and the temple even before building the wall of the city. So they are actually building their nation or their city back from the ground in an open field with no defense. Now, in a human point of view, this is not very logical. Man’s natural thinking is to build defense first so that they can do whatever they need inside without the possible invasion of other nation. Yet in this chapter we see the dependence of the people to God. They started with building the altar and offering sacrifices, recognizing God’s greatness and power with them. Then instead of building the walls, they laid the foundation of the temple. Now note that a logical way would disagree of this because building in an open area is an open invitation for other nations to attack and invade them yet, they did what comes priority to them and that is to build an altar to glorify God then build the temple of the Lord before anything else. This is i believe what Haggai’s words or valuable lessons are. Take care of My house and I will take care of Yours - from God. May we have the same point of view and understanding so we know what to prioritize in our lives.
Another thing that captured my attention is when the foundation of the temple was laid. It brought so much joy to the hearts of the people that some shout for joy, others weep while at the same they all praise and glorify God for what they have accomplished. This only shows the importance of the foundation of our knowledge of Christ. We, as the temple of God today, must build and laid a strong foundation because this is a huge accomplishment and a very important detail to build the temple to its glorious state (as God’s design). So the word of God is our foundation and it is important that we set that foundation in place to be able to complete the building of the temple. So again, back to basic and develop our devotional time with God, reading His words day and night and meditating on it. Hallelujah! Amen!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, great and mighty King. Thank You for a wonderful lesson and a valuable one too today. Thank You because if we set Your calling, Your task first, everything else will be taken care of. As Your word says, Take care of God’s house and You will take care of ours. Lord help me and direct my ways into helping and building Your temple so that I myself will be built and restored by You. Lord help me to always set You as my priority and may I always remember the importance of Your word as the foundation of the building of myself (as Your temple). In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
