TITLE: Artarxerxes Sends Nehemiah to Jerusalm

Scripture:  Nehemiah 2:1 - 20

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ This chapter showed me God’s amazing favor to those who have a burden for His people.  Nehemiah, was a cupbearer to King Artarxerxes, and while possibly, Ezra was gathering the people and ensuring the success of the daily work or task in the temple, Nehemiah was given a different burden that is also very much needed for the welfare of the Israelites - the building of the wall.  As a cupbearer, Nehemiah received such great favor from the king that he was permitted to go back for a period of time to fix the wall.  If your desire aligns to God’s word and plans, You can truly just ask of anything in His Name and it will truly be given.  Take the example of Nehemiah, he prayed to God and no doubt his heart’s desire to build the wall was in accordance to God’s purpose.  So he asked of it to God first then he asked it from the King and truly, it was given to him without question.  Clearly, this approval from the King was a supernatural work from the Lord because what king would allow a servant to go and build a wall to another race or another nation that could possibly be an enemy in the future?  No King in their right mind would think this unless he sees this nation as one with his people so possibly this king consider God as the One and True God that’s why Ezra was let go and now Nehemiah’s request was also provided.  God truly, You work in mysterious ways but all of it is in the fulfillment of Your promises to Your people.  Hallelujah!

Note that when Nehemiah’s request was given, there were still a few men that questions it.  Verse 10 says that Saballat and Tobiah were disturbed of this command from the King for it was for the welfare of the Israelites.

Also note that Nehemiah investigated the issue first before talking to the people of Judah.  He went to the walls and checked it and confirmed what he heart in chapter one from someone else that the walls are still in ruin.  So based on this we can learn from Nehemiah, to also investigate and confirm the information we received and not just jump into conclusions or listen to hearsay.  When Nehemiah spoke to the people of the burden placed by God in his heart, the people immediately united with him in this task.  However again, Tobiah and Saballat were the opposition and accused Nehemiah of rebelling against the king.  Nehemiah and the King clearly had a strong and good relationship so when the enemy saw that Nehemiah is restoring the walls, their first accusation was to sever the relationship Nehemiah had with the king.  So they asked him if he was rebelling against the king.  But Nehemiah’s replied shut them down.  Instead of entertaining the accusation, Nehemiah shut them down for there’s no truth to their words.  Again, we can learn a great deal from Nehemiah.  Sometimes it is better to shut down negative comments or accusations at the start of it instead of entertaining and trying to answer it which nurtures the hearsay and could possible turn into a huge misunderstanding.  So like Nehemiah, shut down negativity and do not entertain them especially when it comes from the enemy.  Amen!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, You are truly amazing and only You comes true wisdom and understanding.  Thank You Lord because You gave Nehemiah wisdom on how to deal with his enemies.  You gave him Your favor to the king as well.  Lord help me to be assured that when I do Your work, Your favor and wisdom is upon me to fulfill Your word and plans.  I should not worry or fear any obstacles for Your work will be accomplished on its own thru Your supernatural interventions so all I need is to obey.  Help me Lord to deal with opposition correctly and to shut them down early when needed.  Give me the wisdom to do that for my own wisdom presents a different solution which I know is ineffective.  Help me Lord to rest and be dependent to Your dealings.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
