TITLE: Builders of the Wall
Scripture: Nehemiah 3:1 - 32
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Chapter 3 of Nehemiah was the detailed account of the wall and the gates built by the people in Jerusalem. Each clan of the Levites, priests, workers, etc had specific portion of the task at hand. However what interest me the most is that the Levites, the priest, the temple workers, they were the ones who did the heavy lifting. What I mean is, they not only minister to the people but also do physical work for the temple. Nowadays, when we talk about building the temple, the priest or the pastors are usually exempted in such hard labor. It is the people who does the hard labor while the priests, pastors, etc supervise. But back in the days, all of them did the heavy task. They all roll their sleeves up and took the responsibility of the heavy work to complete the building of the wall, all for the glory of the Lord. Now that’s amazing isn’t it? Take note that they were not building the temple because the temple was already compelted. They are building the walls and the gates of the city. Now these Levites, priests, and temple workers, they are doing the heavy lifting or physical work for the City of the Lord and not just the temple anymore. Wow! Amazing! Isn’t that great? Today, we see the priests, pastors focused on the duties of the temple only but here in Nehemiah, we see that their duties extended to the whole community of the people of God. Now, this is something to ponder and think on. Today, people separates the church to the community. The church is part of the community but it has no power or authority over the whole community, the government does. But this chapter clearly shows, that the people of the Lord, the Levites, priests, temple workers, etc. They serve God by serving the people or God’s community so their task is not on the physical building of the church but to the people.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, amazing Father and King. I am amazed of Your wisdom and revelations to me every day. Today You taught me that being a pastor, a priest or a temple worker is not about dedicating myself to the church (physical) such as ensuring that the building is clean and ready for the service, ensuring that the musical instruments are there and that there are musicians, or making sure that program flow of the service is in order and good. These are menial tasks but the main responsibilitty of the priests and pastors and workers is the people (the church). Lord, help me to remember this always. Make me realize that when I worked for the temple, I work for You and You placed me to take care of Your people not Your building or physical house. Give me the right understanding Lord so I may be able to apply it correctly in my life. Give me wisdom on how to make this work and apply in my life. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
