TITLE: Ezra Comes to Jerusalem
Scripture: Ezra 7:1 - 28
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Once again, I am amazed of God’s greatness and power and love and grace! I mean, here we have another king who God used to ensure that His word is fulfilled and everything is provided for the people of Judah. Now, here is God in control of everything. But before i elaborate on that, let’s look at Ezra. Verses 1 - 10, spoke about Ezra who came to visit Jerusalem. Now the Bible tells us that Ezra is a descendant of the lineage of Aaron and he was well versed in the law of Moses. He studied the law and was a teacher at the same time. What amazes me in Ezra’s life is because he was a teacher and well versed with the law and because of this, the Gracious hand of the Lord his God was on him. Now, isn’t that amazing? I mean, studying the word of the Lord and teaching it to the people, those are the only things Ezra did and specifically because of that, God was with him. Verse 9 to 10 shows that... It says, “He had begun his journey from Babylon on the first day of the first month, and he arrived in Jerusalem on the first day of the fifth month, for the gracious hand of his God was on him. 10 For Ezra had devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord, and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel.” The reason why the hand of God was on Ezra was because he devoted himself to the study and observance of the Law of the Lord and to teaching its decrees and laws in Israel. So Ezra was both a student and a teacher. Now I love this because I want to be a student of the Word and a teacher of it too. Thank You Lord!
Now let’s go back to King Artaxerxes. King Artaxerxes surely knew Ezra and the Lord, possibly he knew about God through Ezra (not sure about this). But based on what the King wrote, it seemed like he has taken the Lord of Judah as his God as well. Amazingly his heart was set right that it desired to obey and support the Law/word of God. After God used King Cyrus to lay the foundation of the Temple, King Darius to finish the building of the Temple, now He used King Artaxerxes to establish the people of Judah. Amazing! 3 Gentile kings were instrumental in the building and uniting of God’s temple and people. And in the end, the king Praised God for giving him the desire to do all these things. Now that’s really amazing! I mean, we have a gentile king who was given the desire to do and accomplish the work of the Lord (who is the God of Judah not the Persians) and in the end, the King thank God for giving him such a desire. Amazing! Definitely one of the greatest work of the Lord!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, Amazing God and marvelous King. I am in awe of Your work. You’ve used 3 Gentile Kings as a major instrument in building Your temple and uniting Your people. Thank You because You truly are a God in control. During these times, Judah was exiled with no money, no king, no power, no authority, with nothing at all but You. And yet despite of their nothingness, You brought everything to them! Wow! Now that’s a miracle! Lord You did the same to me and continue to do the same. I recognize that there’s nothing I have today that is mine completely. Let Your hand be at work! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
