TITLE: Opposition to the Rebuilding
Scripture: Ezra 4:1 - 24
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ This chapter talks about opposition when the people started doing the work God called them to do. This clearly tells us that when we follow God’s calling for our lives, opposition will definitely arise. There will always be opposition especially when we are doing what God is calling us to do. So don’t come questioning God when you start walking your life in the path He called you for and then you began facing oppositions. It is expected so don’t be surprised by it. Another thing we ought to take note is that the enemies of Judah came and offered help in the building of the temple. Our enemies many times come in the form of help or a gift but be careful, their attacks are just gift wrapped, so don’t fall on it. If we think about what’s written here, it may draw some questions as to why the people of Judah rejected their enemies’ help. Let’s say their enemies were sincere in offering help but in truth, they are not consecrated or called to build the temple. If we allow people to work with us on the task God specifically entrusted on us, let us make sure that they are the people sent to support and help. If not, then you are just welcoming defeat and failure in the task that was set for you by the Lord. Note that after Judah refused to accept their help, their egos were hurt and this is when they started building fear and negativity in continuing with the work God called them to do. Here we see that when we say no to the devil’s gifts, he comes back in retaliation and so we ought to be ready or else we, like the people of Judah, end up halting or stopping in our walk with God or in pursuing the task He has set for us.
Note that the negativity and fear that the enemies caused in the hearts of Judah did not stop there. Then comes the declaration from King Xerxes and Artaxerxes that they are to stop the building of the temple. So the devil does not stop attacking us after we stop doing the call of the Lord in our lives, he proceeds with destroying our main relationship with Him. The devil did not just cause the people to be afraid to rebuild the temple or be afraid to do the will of the Lord, when he saw that the fear in the hearts of the people are working, he added a decree from the new kings of Persia to stop the building. Note that this matters because it was King Cyrus (also king of Persia) who gave the orders to build the temple in Jerusalem and when he died, the devil also used the kings of persia to stop the building from happening ever again.
But God is marvelous and gracious as always, because even if the people feared and stopped, it will not stop His plans from coming to pass. King Darius came (King of Persia) to continue the task King Cyrus set out to do.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I am truly grateful and amazed because no matter what people decides to do, You are not hindered or stopped by it. Even in the delay of the work, You have set it perfectly in Your ultimate plan and will for the people. Thank You Jesus because I can completely surrender and entrust myself to You because of this. Thank You for reminding me of what a cunning enemy i have and I ought to be cautious and careful in how I deal with him. Lord give me the wisdom and strength to deal the enemy as my strength against Him only comes from You. Jesus, You have won the victory over my enemy and I declare freedom and victory from him in Your Name, Amen! Thank You Jesus for Your victory! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
