TITLE: Job
Scripture: Job 19:1 - 29
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ After Bildad, blatantly accused Job of being wicked and selectively remembering Job’s words (focusing only on what Job said that came as an attack to Bildad and the others), Job was frustrated with his friends and felt that they have totally abandoned him. Now Job faced his friend and asked what he deeply felt they are doing to him, “How long will you torment and crush me with words?” Wow! In this statement, we can see that our words can torment and crush spirits. Remember that feeling when you have a fight with either your parents or someone important in your life and they said something hurtful that stuck to you even after the confrontation with them? You hear those exact painful words over and over again in your head and even after years have passed, those words stuck to your mind and limited you or paralyze you to become a better person? Well... It seems like the words of his friends, who originally aimed to comfort Job, did just this to him. Initially, Job was blaming God for what he was experiencing, in this chapter however, he was now pointing his fingers to his friends (blaming them of not doing their role as friends). Job continued by asking them why they are pursuing him like God does? So in short, Job was focus on God for all his miseries but after Bildad’s words, Job now included his friends as an additional source of his miseries. So now, Job accused them of not doing their task or role as his friend. How tragic it is that sometimes we have the best intentions in our hearts when we started but halfway to it, we end up doing just the opposite of what we intend to do in the beginning. I know we have experienced this one way or another, both the situation of Job and his friends and that’s why God is reminding us once again today that our words are powerful and it has the power to kill and destory or give life and nurture, the choice is ours!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that once again Job and his friends taught me a great lesson today that I can clearly use and apply in my life. Lord help me to speak words of life and that my presence becomes a comfort and not a burden to others. Help me to show Your love and kindness to others and not cruelty or pain. Help me Lord that I may speak nothing and represent nothing but You alone in my life. Preserve and protect my testimony Lord that You may be glorified through me. Help me to choose correctly in my words, my actions and my responses. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
