TITLE: Job

Scripture:  Job 23:1- 17

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ Job was really persistent of his case and he didn't allow anyone or anything to persuade him otherwise from the truth he knows about himself.  Verses 1 - 7 showed that he was looking for a time to appeal to God about his situation as if it was his right.  As if God doesn't really know what he is going through, as if God made a mistake.  He even pointed out that God will not press charges againts him when He hears his side - as if like God didn't know the whole thing that happened to him or as if he felt like he has the power to persuade God from whatever God has allowed in his life.  Don't get me wrong, we do (more than we can think or imagine of) have influence over God's plans and decisions.  Becuase in truth, we are at the center of His will.  No matter what it is, we are His best considerations in His plan yet for Job to speak of this sounded arrogant (even if he was just stating a fact).  He also spoke of not being able to see the Lord or feel His presence.  Verses 8 to 12 showed that Job did everything to hear from God or feel His presence.  In present times, it's possible that he tried praise and worship, silent time with God, reading His words, etc. but nothing worked.  It seems like God is still far away.  And most likely it was because of His self righteousness that put the barrier between him and God.  In the last few verses, we can see that again, he pointed his finger back to God who is the source of his sufferings.

Many times we are like Job.  When we don’t understand what’s happening or we don’t see any progress or answer from our current situations, we tend to demand it and if we don’t get it, we are hurt and start pointing our fingers back to the Lord.  We seek for God in hard times but when God turned His back on us for a time, we then point our fingers back to Him as if He is the source of all our sufferings and we are going through injustice.  Self righteousness tends to do that.  Because we feel we are ruled injustly or because we feel that what happened to us is not fair, we tend to see everything good in us, everythign we did right, everything we did in accordance to the law and God’s words, so because we see our own righteousness, we tend to see what we think others did wrong or the mistakes they did because we tend to compare others to the “right” we did.  Self-righteousness is truly a poison that will sips through our vein slowly and when it has settled in, it will cloud our judgment to see only the bad of others even to the point of twisting what happens to benefits us as the righteous one.  Such a terrible poison to have in our spirit.  That’s why we ought to ask God to humble ourselves and we ought to always remember that we are under Grace and everything we did good were only made possible because of God not becuase of our own effort.  Every good and perfect gifts comes from God alone so our ability to do good or obey is a gift from God Himself. Nothing is on our own doing and effort.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, what an incredible message. Lord thank You because You are all-knowing and all-powerful.  You have seen things coming 10 times faster than we do.  You have known what is to come years before it even happens.  So Lord I commit myself to You, my will to take control of my life, into Your hands.  Lord I pray that I will be humble always and never think of myself better than anyone else.  Help me to be filled with humility and to see what is good and not what is wrong.  Help my eyes to be directed to the path that You have chosen for me.  Help me to see You around me Lord.  Let me always hang on to the truth that nothing good comes out of my own effort alone, it takes You Lord to do what is right, it takes You to do what is true.  It takes You to do everything in accordance to the law.  Help me to always understand this and tame my heart when it starts boiling up or insisting that my choice or my preference or my truth is the right one.  And lead me to the reality that it is only the truth You said it is, is the genuine reality and truth of all.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
