TITLE: Job
Scripture: Job 17:1 - 16
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Chapter 17 is a continuation of Job’s reply to Elphaz We already knew that Job made a decision to ruin is faith in God based on what he was experiening then. His knowledge of Him was distorted because of the sufferings he was going thru and his friends were of no help to him. At this point, Job was no longer making sense to his friends and in the same way, his friends were no longer making sense to him. As we read thru chapter 17, we see that Job is now even putting the blame on God on his friends being close minded on his case. He is aware and recognize that his spirit was now broken and his days were cut short. Job again put his finger on God as the ultimate responsible for making him a laughing stock to the people. He was so angry and hurt that he blamed God for everything that he is going thru at that point. There’s 2 things we can learn from this chapter. The most obvious one is that man tends to blame God or anyone else except themselves when they are going thru such sufferings; their judgment and logic cannot be trusted because they are bias to themselves and again this is cause by “pity”. Job pitied himself so he didn’t see himself as guilty but only as an innocent man at the hand of a merciless God. Now man as we are, when we are in pain and sufferings, our eyes are open to the hurt we experience and see everyone else as our perpetrator while we always see ourselves as the victim It is important to remember that IT ALWAYS TAKES TWO TO TANGO! One can never dance tango on their own and in life, it’s the same. So no one is just a sole victim, each one is accountable for what happens to them and Job didn’t see this, though he is one of the intelligent and sensible men there was at that time, that;s because he was blinded by his pain and so only see God as the source of all his sufferings and nothing else. How sad to be in this situation. Pity may be a pathetic or simple emotion but its outcome can be a pretty tragic one as it destroys your spirit more than anything else.
Second thing that we can learn from this is that Job spoke of his friends being closed in understanding his situation. We can learn from this for oftentimes, we tend to talk and give out our opinions but when it comes to listening, we terribly fail from it. We are good talkers, especially when we are being logical or reasonable but we find it hard to listen and read between the lnes of what happens or what is going thru the people that are sufferings. We only see the facts but fail to see the spirit. So let us open our eyes to see their spirits and hear their cries and not allow the facts closed our mind and hearts to them.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You once again for a wonderful eye-opening message. I know that I have learned a lot from the lives of Job and his friends. Thank You Lord because You are teaching me to be accountable and never think of myself as a single entity but I am part of a body. So what happens to the body affects me and so I am not to put blame to those who fail but I am to take responsibility to what I did or did not do to have cause such tragedy in the body. Lord help me to see and live this in my life that I may always seek to do what is best, which is the will You have set for me. Lord give me an ear to listen and eyes to see the spirit and the cries of each individual more than the reality or which is what visible in the naked eye Help me to see them as You see them Lord and give me the compassion for them that I may not separate myself but always remember that I am part of Your body. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
