TITLE: Eliphaz
Scripture: Job 22:1 - 30
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ Here we have Eliphaz, another of Job's friends, insisting that Job must have sinned that's why he is in this predicament. In this chapter we see that Eliphaz even went into accusing Job specific sins like stripping people of their clothes and leaving them naked, withhelding food from the hungry, and so on. Eliphaz is pointing out to Job that somehow, somewhere and sometime, he did sin. So he is trying to rub on Job's face the possibility of him sinning. He spoke of the times that Job may have done something wrong. So he must have went back to Job’s past, his past that showed his sin. Many times we do this to our friends, instead of focusing on God's love and His grace for us, we tend to show our friends the sins they do and highlight it more than the forgiveness of the Lord, which leads them to repel and rebel all the more.
In verse 21, Eliphaz started telling Job of God but it was more of telling Job what he needs to do instead of God's love for him. And again, sometimes, we tend to command or impose what others need to do without showing them why they need to do it and letting them see God's amazing love that will drive them to humble down and repent. We ought to learn from Eliphaz here because most of us are definitely guilty of this one time or another.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for this wonderful lesson and day that You showered upon me. I am truly blessed to have this daily time with You. Lord help me to be a mirror of Your love and grace instead of a mirror showing the past or other people’s sins. Let me be a figure of hope, love and faith to others that will draw them near You instead of driving them away because they see their wickedness and sins on me because of self-righteousness. Help me to show them the way instead of driving them away from Your path. In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
