TITLE: Bildad

Scripture:  Job 18:1 - 21

God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:

→ In this chapter we see that Bildad is already feeling attacked.  He was so focused on Job’s words that he failed to truly understand its meaning.  I guess we can call it “selective understanding” and we are victims of this many times in the height of an argument or our emotions.  Job’s words in the previous chapter spoke of God as the source of his sufferings, that God put sufferings in his life...Job did mention a little about his friends not making sense or God not allowing his friends to understand him but then the emphasis of Job’s words were blaming God but Bildad saw it as an attacked to him and his friends.  He started his response to Job by accusing him of Job seeing them as stupid.  Then he continued on speaking of the fate of the wicked on earth, clearly his words are pointing Job as the wicked in the scenario.  Most of the time when we choose to hear only a portion of what others say, we tend to choose to hear the attacks or the blows against us and when we focus on that, man’s usually tend to fight back with another offense and the cycle just goes on and on, that’s why the argument doesn’t stop, unless, we focus on God.  Bildad in this case, was focus on the attack towards him when in reality, Job was somehow putting blame to God the whole time.  So Bildad made it about him than about the Lord (even if it was in a negative context from Job).  I know that many people can relate to this because men do this.  I, too, am guilty of this.  So we ought to direct our focus to what matters and not on what we think or feel.  

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for a wonderful revelation.  Truly Lord I am at one point or another, guilty of this.  I have this “selective memory” or “understanding” of just what I want to hear or what I think I need to address.  So there’s limited hearing and this ends up in argument and conflict.  Then when I tend to focus on the negative words that was said to me eventhough it was not the main idea of the statements made by another, I feel attacked and so I fight back in words.  Lord help me to step back in times like these (confrontations) and help me to hear the whole story, not just partially because i do tend to hear just partial of the story.  Help me to seek understanding of the whole story and to direct my focus on You every time.  Give me wisdom on how to deal with situations like this.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
