Title: Of David.
Scripture: Psalm 103:1 – 22
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ This chapter is written by David
whose heart is after God's own heart.
His words filled with love and adoration from the Lord. David started this chapter with what he loves
doing, praising the Lord and remembering what He did for him. If we look into David's words one by one, we
can confirm that the Lord is His satisfaction.
Never did David highlight anything material in his written psalms or
when he praised the Lord. In fact, he
always point out the benefits of what God has done. Example, he praises the Lord for His
provisions, not for the temple, chariots, or the things he received. He praises God for His love and compassion,
which is the root of why God saved Him, or why God protected Him. So overall, David goes back to the root of
all the things that happened to him or that God allowed to happen and then it
all boils down to God's love, compassion, righteousness and justice, and etc.
That's why David, loves the Lord
not only for the good things He did for him but also for His just and
righteousness because of these nature of the Lord, that David was blessed! David chose to follow the path of the Lord,
the path of righteousness and do not tolerate wickedness and rule
justly...these are the nature of God and when he was aligned with God, God's
own nature, His righteousness and justice automatically blessed and protects
him. So we ought to consider the path we
chose in our lives because sometimes, we defect from the Lord and so, although,
God loves us so much, His nature will automatically, destroys You because You
are opposite His path or people.
I love that David, described God
as a person who made Himself known to Moses...who made Himself known to a man,
which He still does today in our generation.
This brings us hope and joy that God will reveal Himself to us too. David also described God as compassionate and
gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love...what great characters that we all
love. But note that in verse 9, David
said, the Lord does not accuse, nor harbor anger forever. So the Lord's may accuse and harbor anger but
it is not forever - there is an end to God's wrath - Hallelujah! Let's face it...in our lives today, we
deserve more of His anger than His love!
Yet if God does show His anger towards us, it is comforting to know that
there is an end to it and it doesn't last forever...primarily because of God's
amazing love for you and me. To better
illustrate what David was saying, he even showed a comparison of a father's
love for a son, which is literally the closest we can imagine of the love of
the Lord but ultimately God's love for us is even more. In verse 17, David said, from everlasting to
everlasting, the Lord's love is with those who fear Him and His righteousness
with their children's children - with those who keep His covenant and remember
to obey His precepts. This is a
fact! Unquestionable or
unbreakable! The Lord's love for us
continues but specifically, to those who fear Him and keep His covenant and
obey His precepts. The question lies now
in us...do we fear God? There is no
longer question if we love Him because most of us will say yes to that. But do we fear Him? Do we keep His covenant and obey them? This is where the testing comes for us. If you do, then today, just like David said
in verses 19 - 22, Praise the Lord! Tell your soul to praise Him!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, what an amazing
message! Thank You for words of wisdom
from You Lord through David. Thank You
for giving me truths to think about and questions to ask myself. There is no question about Your love...only
about mine. But the deeper question is
my fear of You! And now, this is what I
have to internalize and understand that loving You is not enough because my
love is not perfect! I must fear You,
obey and keep Your words as well. Help
me Lord to do this as I have no strength to follow through but with You by my
side, I will be able to work things out perfectly as You planned it. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
