Title: For the Director of Music. Of David. A Psalm
Scripture: Psalm 109:1 – 31

God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
David was in a very tough time of his life as shown clearly in this chapter.  He spoke of a specific enemy, an enemy who delights in nothing but his downfall and struggle.  David described a time of his life when all his friends accuse him and lied to him.  Clearly his friends betrayed him yet in verse 4, David said, "...but I am a man of prayer."  - can anyone of us say the same?  I mean are we able to tolerate the wickedness of others specifically towards us.  We are not just talking about bad circumstances that happened in our lives, David spoke of an enemy, whose goal is nothing but to oppress and hurt and inflict pain in his life.  Yet in the end, David sounded proud that in response to all the attacks, all he said was, "I am a man of prayer" - as if there's great power in it and that it is his only salvation.  The truth is...it is his only salvation!  In the same way that it is our only salvation in many cases in our lives, yet, we don't see prayer as a solution nor see it powerful enough to redeem us.  But David did and we should to.  We ought to change our mindset and know that the most powerful weapon or defense we have is to pray.  Hallelujah!
Can you imagine how bad the situation is for David, for him to wish such bad prayers for his enemy?  From verses 6 - 20, we can see that David was praying or asking for the worse to come to his enemy.  I can't imagine how much pain this enemy had inflicted upon David but surely it was more than what we can imagine for a righteous man of God to pray for such terrible things to happen to someone, right?  So we can only imagine that David was in a very terrible situation in the hand of this enemy...but his hope remains in the Lord.  In verse 21, David spoke of his cries for help to God - his great distress laid down before the Lord. Pleading for salvation and deliverance from the hand of his enemy.  In verse 26, David said, Help me Lord my God, save me according to your unfailing love.  At this point of David's life, he could have asked for revenge and possibly his human side would have wanted it, but in the end, his words and heart are in one in the hopes that God's power, strength, might and glory will be known in His deliverance and redemption from the hand of this enemy.  And in the end, even David himself will only have to do one thing...that is to extol the Lord, worship Him for His wonderful deeds and unfailing love.  Amen!

Prayer:
Lord Jesus what a wonderful message.  Truly, we fail to see the power of prayer.  We know it but at times, we don't act like we do know its true value.  Lord, help me to have the same understanding us David.  That I may always run towards You in prayer in difficult times.  In times when it is worse than I can imagine...let my heart, mind and my whole being, draw near to You in times when everything is just out of control.  When I face a difficult mountain or a burden I cannot bear.  Let it be that my 1st response, like David, is to pray.  Help me to remember this at all times Lord.  In Jesus' Name, Amen!
