Title: Of David.
A Psalm.
Scripture: Psalm 101:1 – 8
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ Psalm 101 is a psalm of David and
one that shows David commitment to live a blameless life for God. David started with the words "I
will" - again showing his decision, his choice, his voluntary will of
doing these things he wrote. David spoke
of choosing to sing of God's love and justice; of singing praises and carefully
leading a blameless life - the key here is carefully leading...when you are
careful, you are conscious and cautious at the same time. So David here is saying that we ought to
cautiously and consciously choose to do what is blameless and right. But not only that, David spoke of conducting
the affairs of his house with a blameless heart. Clearly, David chose to not only straighten
his life but all the lives of the people around him or under him. He took responsibility not only for his life
but the life of the people within his hand or reach. You can see David's own opinion regarding the
faithless people and his disgust of them...and he vowed nothing to do with what
is evil. We ought to do the same each
day of our lives. Every day there is an
opportunity to do what is evil, so we must vow, being cautious and conscious
NOT to do what is evil.
But note, that David didn't stop
there. He didn't just correct his life
or the lives of the people around him but also rebuke or teach those who do in
verse 5, he spoke of silencing those who slanders their neighbors in secret and
not tolerating those with a proud heart and haughty eyes.
In verse 6, David confirms his
willingness to care for the faithful in the land so they will dwell with
him. So those who walk blamelessly will
minister to him. Wow! This man, David, who decided to walk
blamelessly knows that he needs others who do the same with him to minister to
him. Such a humble man!
In verse 7, David made a
declaration that no one who practices evil or deceit or who lies will dwell in
his house or his presence. This is the
very heart of the Lord!
In the end (verse 8), David spoke
of silencing the wicked and cutting off their evil doings every morning from
the city of the Lord. So it is not
enough to straighten our lives but we ought to influence others to do the
same...also, it is important that we cut off or put a stop to wickedness if
possible and not tolerate them because God does not tolerate them.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for a
wonderful message about walking a blameless life. Thank You for teaching me that it is not
enough that I walk a blameless life but part of walking a blameless life is to
be responsible to the people around me to do the same and at the same time,
never tolerating sin within my house or community. Help me Lord to shine Your light to men that
I may influence them to do what is right and not the other way around. Give me the strength to be cautious and
conscious to choose what is right each day.
In Jesus' Name, Amen!
