Title: Psalm 119 - Gimel
Scripture: Psalm 119:17 –24

God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
Wow!  Reading through Psalm 119:17 - 24, I hope and wish that I have the same desire as this author.  This author longs for the Law/word of the Lord as if it is something desirable and critical for living.  The author asked the Lord to be good to him/her for what reason?  So he/she may obey His word.  The author asked to have his eyes open and see the wonderful things in God's law and not see all the rules and dos and donts only.  In verse 19, he pleaded for God not to hide his commands from him...now this is a person who longs or lives for God's commands.  Are we able to say we have the same longing?  I know I'm not even close to this author's desires and longings.  In verse 20, he/she said, "My soul is consumed with longing for your laws at all times." Wow!  Again, something that I lack right now... longing for the law of the Lord.  We want to live freely and don't want to live with a set of rules (aside from the ones we make for ourselves) but this author, seeks or thrives for these laws - the commands of the Lord.  He/she knew that God rebukes the arrogant who does not obey His commands.  Then he/she asked God to remove the disobedience's scorn and contempt for what reason...because he/she obeys His word.  Clearly, this author stood firm in God and seeks to continue meditating with His law despite of the oppression or persecution others give him/her.  Why?  For only one reason...because he/she delights in God's word/commands/statutes because they are his/her counselors.
The question we ought to ponder is do we have the same longing?  Do we have the same desire?  It is been said that we ought to take a pure path and to continue on, we ought to hide his words in our heart that we may not sin against Him...so we ought to desire, long, and even thrive for the law of the Lord because it is the sustaining power of our lives.  Hallelujah!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus what a great and powerful revelation.  Lord I know that at times I fail to treasure or value Your word.  At times, I would rather choose to watch TV series or do other things instead of reading Your word or obeying them.  Help me Lord to have the same desire and longing as this author had for Your commands.  Open my eyes that I may see the benefits of obeying Your commands and statutes.  Give me wisdom Lord to see the great purpose of being obedient to Your law at all times.  In Jesus' Name, Amen!
