Title: Of David.
Scripture: Psalm 25:1 – 22
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ Such
a heartfelt psalm and powerful prayer from David this is. Chapter 25 is something that we all should
ponder upon and learn from especially when we are going through some tough
times. David in this chapter clearly was
experiencing some troubles yet his Faith remained strong and firm in God as
also shown in this chapter.
David
started this psalm reiterating his trust in God. Many times, we need to declare and say out
loud as emphasis and assurance not for God but for ourselves that our trust is
in the Lord. Many times, we know that we
trust HIM yet in difficult times, there's this struggle in our faith and to
overcome and clear out any confusion even in our minds, let's declare and say
it out loud with power and certainty that our trust belongs to God and God
alone. Again, we do this not for the
Lord but for our sakes. In a way, David
reminded himself who God is. When we
speak of who God is in our lives, what He did and does and will do to save us
and protect us and provide for us, we actually remind ourselves the value and
assurance of the decision we make to fully trust Him. Look at David say in verse 3, he said no one
hopes in you will ever be put to shame!
Now, he spoke of this not to remind God because God knows this already,
I believe it was to remind himself that God is not capable of putting His
children to shame - He just won't allow it!
But those who are treacherous without a cause, then they will be put to
shame. So it is also important to
analyze our requests... is it with a cause?
Is it with a purpose? Or are we
just being treacherous without a good cause?
What
I love about David's psalm in this chapter is that after he reminded himself
that his decision to trust God is the right thing to do, he sought for
God! He sought for His ways and His
guidance, His path, His truth...Now seeking is not just looking then that's
it. Looking at David's words, he said,
show me your ways Lord - so he asked to SEE the ways of the Lord. He asked God to guide him in God's truth and
teach him. Now, he did not only want to
see but he wants to learn! Remember,
learning is more difficult than just seeing.
When you see God's goodness, you ultimately become appreciative and
desire to praise and worship Him for God's works is always amazing and His
glory will always be revealed in it - so the expected result is to Praise God! However in the teaching process, David is
asking to be corrected! So David sought
God not only to see (Praise God) but also learn (Be corrected - change). Now
this tells me that seeking God requires 2 things - showing and teaching from
God...and well, seeing and learning from our end. So the ultimate goal when we seek God is
praise and change! Amazing! Wow!
What an amazing revelation Lord.
So it's not just about thanksgiving and knowing the will of God. But it's about praising Him and learning (changing
ourselves) His ways that we may participate in it! That's why David asked for Guidance. A guide is there for us to follow and do not
to just read and know. Wow Lord these
words are so powerful!
In
verse 6, David said to God to remember not his good works or his right
decisions but God's mercy and love.
Again clearly, David knew that everything he did was of no value because
everything right he did, he did so because God led him to choose those
decisions so he can never take credit for the right decisions he made. So he told God to remember His love and
mercy. He even told God not to remember
his sins because truly only his sins are the choices we can truly be credited
for! So David knew that everything good
he did, he did because of God (meaning, God led him to do those good things)
but everything bad or wrong he did, he knows he was purely accountable because
this he willfully choose to do despite of God's guidance and teachings pointing
the other way. Because God is good!
In
verse 8, David continued on describing who God is again not for God's benefit
but for his own. He reminded himself
that God is good and upright therefore his instructions are right. All His ways are loving and faithful toward
those who keep the demands of His covenant. So again, search your heart and analyze, are
you keeping the demands of God's covenant?
And David said in verse 11, For your Name's sake Lord forgive my
iniquity though it is great! Wow! This is a man who truly understands the
sovereignty of the Lord. David knew that
God is God and without sin. And so the
forgiveness of his sins is not for his sake but for God's Name to be untainted
for David was the anointed one. So David
knew that even if God forgives his great sins, it was not because of what he did
or because of what he gives, or say. He
knew it was because of God as well! So
again he cannot get credit for it at all!
May we have the same thinking and mindset and know that God is God no
matter what and we should fear Him!
In
verse 12, David spoke of what God does for His people again reminding Him of
what a great God he has and the reasons why he fully trusts the Lord. May we have the same attitude especially in
times when we felt the Lord is so far away.
Let us remind ourselves of the many good things God has done in our
lives and the lives of the people who love Him to remain standing in faith with
Him no matter how difficult the circumstances we are in!
In
verse 20, David asked God to guard his life and rescue him because he takes
refuge in Him. This was more of a
conclusion after everything he reminded himself of about the Lord. So David was confident to ask God for help
and assured to put his trust in Him in the end because he remembered everything
that God does and who He truly is! Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord
today is such a wonderful and amazing day for the lessons You taught me in this
chapter. There were so many wisdom and
truth that I myself am surprise to uncover.
Thank You Lord for the valuable secrets You revealed to me today. May I apply it greatly in my life that I will
walk this truth daily. Lord help me to
remember to remind myself every day of Your goodness and love, especially in
dark times. Help me to seek You
earnestly but this time seeking You properly with 2 goals in mind - to see and
to learn. Lord remind me that as I come
to You, Your role is to show and to teach and I am to see and learn. Help me to remember that in seeking You, the
outcome is praise and correction or in other words, change! Give me wisdom to understand and a teachable
heart that I may learn these valuable lessons in my life and impart it to
others. The purpose of praise and change
is so that I may be part of Your plan. So
in seeking You, it is seeking Your will and plan. In the process, thanksgiving and change is
done for the purpose of being a part of Your great will and plan. Hallelujah!
In Jesus' Name, Amen!
