Title: For The Director Of Music, A Psalm Of David
Scripture: Psalm 21:1 - 13
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ David was a prayerful man. He prays for himself, he prays for others, he
prays when he was distress and he prays when he was happy too. This chapter (chapter 21) was a prayer testimony,
could be a prayer of thanksgiving but it's more of a prayer of amazement of
God's wonders and David's happiness.
Clearly this psalm was a demonstrations of how God delivered David from
his trouble and in doing so, David was truly happy. He pointed it out at the start of this
prayer, that the king (David) rejoices in the Lord's strength! David spoke of God granting his heart's
desire and not withholding the request of his lips. But let us look deeper into this chapter and
we can see that David's request were not superficial. He did not ask for more chariots or men to win
his battle, or more sophisticated weapons to fight his enemies. He did not ask for anything that he can use
to conquer and overcome all his enemies, in fact, he only asked for the Lord to
hear his cry that God will fight for him and He saves or delivers him from his
trouble. David's heart's desires cannot be bought by money or done by human
effort. His requests from God are
miracles and supernatural that nothing or no one else can do but God Himself. David's prayer was specific and that is his
deliverance but he never tells the Lord what He needs to do to deliver
him. He never tells God what to do.
Today, people tend to ask God for specific
needs to a point that they tell Him what He needs to do. Sounds like people are asking for something
specific and even tells God instructions on how to give it to them, which is
totally out of boundary - showing lack of respect and honor.
In verses 8 - 13, David elaborated how God
will deliver him yet all these were acts that no man can do! He spoke of God's hand that will lay hold on
all his enemies and His right hand will seize his foes... now clearly, no man
can do this only God can! David
continued saying, God will burn up as in a blazing furnace his enemies and
swallow them up in His wrath, consuming his enemies with fire. Now all these descriptions and illustrations
that David made were not possible for humans, only to the One with Great Power
and Strength! And that continued on
until verse 12. And by verse 13, David
concluded that God is exalted in His strength and we will all sing and praise
His might for the wondrous demonstration of His great power. Who can relate to how David prays? His prayer speaks of miracles and
supernatural acts, proving only that David clearly knows His God is not a weak
human but an awesome and powerful Supernatural Being! Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are great and mighty! I am amazed of how David prays and didn't see
it the way he did before. Thank You for
revealing this to me. Help me Lord to
pray like David who speaks of such greatness of You and highlighting Your great
power and glory even as I believe and hope for Your deliverance in my
life. Lord help me not to limit You and
put You in a box by thinking of ways on how to deliver myself and ask You to do
it for me. Help me not to belittle You
Lord instead help me speak unthinkable ways that only You can do! Impossible acts that no man can ever attempt
of doing because then Only You can clearly do such things, which will then
showcase Your Strength, Power, and Glory!
Then all praise and worship belongs to You alone! In Jesus' Name, Amen!
