Title: Psalm 33
Scripture: Psalm 33:1 – 22
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ David's words in this chapter were not a
suggestion but more of what must be done as the children of God. Reading thru the whole chapter, David wrote
what we, God's people must be doing while waiting for the Lord's second coming.
1) Praise and Worship the Lord - Sing, make
music, sing a new song, play skillfully,
shout for joy! (verses 1 - 3)
Now that's worship before God! David did not say sing in tune, he did not
say sing in complete harmony with one another!
In fact, David said Sing joyfully!
The only requirement in praising God is to sing joyfully, play
skillfully and shouting for Joy! So Joy
is key in praising God! Let us not
forget this, as we wait upon the Lord, let us filled out days with Praise and
Worship but not just any praise and worship - but a heart of joy in worshiping
and praising our God!
David also gave reasons why we must praise
and worship our King! It is only for the
reason that the word of the Lord is right and true and He is faithful in all He
does. So the only basis or reason why we
ought to Praise and Worship God is because of His truth, His word, His
faithfulness, His love for righteousness and justice. Not just because a miracle happened and it
brought so much joy or because God has provided for our needs. NOTE that whether we receive something
(visible gifts like money, food, healing, etc), we still ought to Praise our
Lord according to David because our main reason for praising Him is because of
His love, faithfulness, and word (promises).
2) Fear and revering the Lord (verses 8 -
9)
Revere means to have great respect; to show
devotion and honor to
Fear may be taken out of context that's why
we don't usually use the word fear when it comes to our action towards God but
fear or being afraid is very important especially connected to reverence. So when fearing God it must be because we
revere Him. Fear is a valuable emotion
that keeps us in our toes in the knowledge that God is God and not our
equal. That's why it is important to
partner fear with reverence because reverence is about showing great
respect. So in fear, we give great
respect to our Lord. So in our lives
here on earth, do we fear and revere God in how we live today? As we wait upon the Lord, we ought to praise
and worship Him but at the same time, live in fear and reverence to God.
Why? David also answered this question in
verse 10. He said the Lord foils the
plans of the nations, He thwarts the purposes of the peoples but His plans
stand firm forever. in short, God is in
control so fear and reverence must be given to Him because He is in control of
everything.
David continued on by stating more facts;
how the nation whose God is the Lord is blessed and the people He chose for His
inheritance. God forms our hearts yet He
considers everything we do. God eyes are on those who fear Him and delivers us
from death and keep us alive in famine - take note, keep us alive in famine, so
we will still go through famine, we can just be sure that God will keep us
alive :)
3) Wait in hope for the Lord and trust in
His Holy Name (verse 20 - 22)
As we wait for the Lord, we wait in hope
and in trust in His Name. We do not wait
impatiently but every day we wait with a heart and mind of hope of His
coming. And as we do that, our days are
live in full trust in His Name.
Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, today is such a great day and a
wonderful time of learning from David.
Thank You Jesus for teaching what I must do as I wait for Your
coming. I must praise and worship You
with Joy, fear and revere You as You deserve, and wait in hope and in full
trust in Your Name for everything each day.
Help me Lord to live with these 3 mantras that I can live on for the
rest of my days on earth as I patiently and excitedly wait for Your
return. Give me the joy in my heart Lord
to praise and worship You each day, the heart to fear and revere You as You
deserve and to fully wait in hope and trust in You alone. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
