Title: For the Director of Music. Of the Sons of
Korah. A Psalm
Scripture: Psalm 49-:1 – 20
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ Chapter 49 is a powerful psalm. Words of encouragement in difficult
situation, especially the uncontrolled ones.
The writer in this chapter started with calling out to people, he was
gathering everyone both the rich and poor alike, for he has important words for
them to hear. He spoke of words of
wisdom and the meditation of his heart giving understanding to these words of
wisdom. So he emphasized that only
through the meditation of his heart was he able to understand these words of
wisdom that he made.
In verse 5 he started with, why should I
fear when evil days come, when wicked deceivers surround me? Wow!
Such a strong starting point! Clearly,
people may be experiencing some wickedness around. It's possible that evil or darkness has
become obvious or visible in the city, which is true today. But this writer sad, why should I fear? We've heard a lot of terrible and shocking
news all over the world today. We've
seen it on TV, news of gang rape, news of mutilation, of murder, mass murders,
etc. The cruelty of man laid before us,
proving the power and hold of the darkness in this world. Yet, like this writer, we must have the same
confidence in Christ! We can stand firm and
speak to ourselves and others the same, why should i fear when evil days come? The wicked trusts in their wealth and boasts
of their great riches, yet no one can redeem the life of another or pay our
debts to God. So in short, no matter how
rich or powerful we become on earth, it's meaningless, because in the end, we
all still not able to pay our own ransom or redeem our own life. Because life is priceless so no riches can be
enough for it. We all see that man dies
both the wise and the foolish. The tombs
remain the houses of the bodies of both the foolish and the wise. So it doesn't matter how rich we become on
earth because in the end, our bodies will have the same small house when we
die, our tomb.
The writer continued by saying that people
today, despite of how rich they are, do not endure, all will perish in the
end. It is the fate of all who trust in
themselves and those who also follow those who trust themselves. So let's dig into this deeper. The writer is no longer just pointing on to
those who believes in their own self, own effort and wealth but also those who
believe on these people. So death and
sufferings are the fate of those who trust in their selves and those who trust
other people too.
In verse 15, the writer showed us that only
God can redeem us from death and He will "surely" take us to
Him. The writer was so sure and certain
that the Lord will do so. And he continued to give great advises, reminding us
not to be overly awed or amazed of others who grow rich or those who have good
and material things, for they will take nothing with them when they die. He said that while alive, these people will
count themselves blessed and will praise those who prosper like them but in the
end, they will join the rest of men in their grave/death. This is a fact! The question really is, what's the life
you'll be facing after death here on earth?
So in retrospect, the most important lesson in this chapter is, do not
waste your time doing or working to make this life a better one (not that you
should not care but don't give all your time, effort and focus on this life),
instead invest on your future life, the life in eternity. So work today for the life you'll have in
eternity. So if you cannot see the
wisdom in this or if you lack the understanding on what this writer has spoken
then you're fate has been determined and set - you will be like the beasts that
perish!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, glorious King and almighty
God! Thank You for such great wisdom
today. Thank You for showing me the
importance of my future life with You (eternal life). Thank You for showing me the importance of my
purpose and my calling today. Because I
do not live today for this life, I live today for the life I am about to spend
throughout eternity. So everything I do
in this life will determine the life i'm going to live after I die. Help me Lord to make the right choices and to
build my future life with You. I know it
has been set and I can't wait for the life You have for me Lord. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
