Title: For the Director of Music. With Stringed
Instruments. A Maskil of David. When the Ziphites had gone to Saul and said, “Is
Not David Hiding Among Us?”
Scripture: Psalm 54:1 – 7
God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ At this time of David's life, he
was running away from Saul and Saul was pursuing David. David was hiding in the
hills of the desert of Ziph and the Ziphites went to Saul to tell him where
David is hiding. So as you can see, it
seems like wherever David hides or go, someone will tell of his whereabouts to
the King (Saul). So David wrote this
psalm accompanied with stringed instruments.
Take note that despite of David had a lot in his plate because he was
hiding from Saul, David always had time to worship, praise and pray to
God. He always finds time! That's the key in this situation!
So David started by saying, Save
me, O God, by Your Name; vindicate me by Your might. Take note that David's request is for God to
save him for God's might and because of His Name not because David was
distressed or tired or because can no longer make it. Though all these are true. Note that David's main reason for requesting
to be saved by the Lord is not because He is weak or tired or nowhere to go,
but because David knew that his deliverance will be a reflection of God's glory
and might! So understand that in our
perspective, God saves us not because of our condition, not because of our love
for Him or anything else, but because of His Name sake so that HE will be
glorified at all times!
In verse 4, David said that God is
my help SURELY! The Lord is the one who
sustains me. David spoke with so much
trust because HE spoke out of experience, out of his Faith in Him and the
knowledge that God will help.
I also want to emphasize verse 6
when David said that he will sacrifice a "Freewill" offering - note the
freewill offering is a sacrifice for it is the sacrifice of choice! David sacrificed his own freewill, the
ability to choose - that's how trusting he is to God that he is willing to lay
down his ability to choose for he chose to choose God's choice!
Many times in our lives we
experienced like we are at a dark time, everything we do seems to be not
enough. Wherever we go and whatever we
do, seems to bring us closer to our enemy or there will always be someone
plotting against us. No matter how we run,
problems are chasing us. Well, don't
make it an excuse not to praise or worship or sing a song to the Lord. David find the time to worship, praise and
pray to God even at a time when everything seems to be falling apart in his
life. He decided to sacrifice His
ability to choose for the Lord choice for him at a time when everything seems
to be against him. May we develop the
same character and understanding as we go thru our own struggles and troubles
in life.
Prayer:
Lord thank You for such a wonderful
revelation. Thank You for reminding me
that praising and worshiping and praying to You is a matter of choice. Thank You for reminding me that I need to
find the time to praise and worship and pray to You everyday like David even
with all the chaos and mess in my life.
Thank You Lord for teaching me the heart of surrender as David
understood it. Help me Lord to apply all
these things in my life. In Jesus' Name,
Amen!
