God’s Message / God’s Promise / God’s Commands:
→ When David wrote psalm 56, he was
in a terrible situation. He was running
away from Saul, his own king, and was caught by King Achish, the King of Gath -
Gath was part of the Philistines. So
David was running away from Saul (his own family) and ran into the hands of
Achish (his enemy). Looks like, he had
no other way to go to. He can't go back
to his home for he was a fugitive and so he ran away but then fell into the
hands of his mortal enemy, the Philistines, whom he had slain thousands
of. Maybe at times, we feel like we are
in the same situation. We are running
away from a problem only to get into a much bigger problem - does it sound
familiar? Well, David experienced the
same and today, we are going to learn from David how he dealt with his situation.
David always called upon God
whenever he in a situation like this. No
matter what it is, his first act is to call to God! May we mimic the same action that the first
thing in mind when we are in trouble is to call upon the Lord. So in verse 1, David called upon God and
asked for mercy because his enemies are in hot pursuit of him. And take a look at verse 3, David said, when
I am afraid, I put my trust in You! Now,
take note of this because it is not only when David is surrounded by his
enemies but every time he is afraid. Are
you afraid today? Are you in fear or
worrying? Then follow David's lead and
put your trust in God so you will fear no more!
David spoke in confidence of God's
power and glory and might - no question at all.
Verse 5-7, David highlighted that no matter what his enemies plans are,
God can bring them down! David spoke of
these in certainty that in verse 8, he said to God to record his misery, to
list his tears on a scroll and he was sure that his enemy will turn back when
he calls upon God for help! Do we stand
on the same truth in our lives? Can we
truly say that we have the full confidence in God to take care of everything
for us? Note also that God keeps a
record of our misery and all our tears for He did say in His word that
Vengeance is His and HE is a just God.
He will make fair judgment to all!
So like David, be comforted in the
knowledge that your trust is in God whom no man can go against. And our promise to Him is the offering of our
Praise and Thanksgiving! This clearly
shows David's faith because even before God delivered him, he already uttered
praise and thanksgiving for God's deliverance for him. Now that's faith!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You for a
wonderful time and lesson today. Help me
to practice and exercise my faith daily.
Thank You for giving me an understanding that I must see it in my mind
before it will manifest before me. Help
me Lord to see in my spirit and hold on steadfastly to Your Word and
promises. Give me wisdom so I know how
to handle difficult situations like David was in. Help me to remember You in these times. In Jesus' Name, Amen!
