TITLE: The Capture of Rabbah
Scripture: 1 Chronicles 20:1 - 8
God’s Message / God’s Commands / God’s Promises:
→ In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, Joab led out the armed forces. He laid waste the land of the Ammonites and went to Rabbah and besieged it, but David remained in Jerusalem. Joab attacked Rabbah and left it in ruins. David took the crown from the head of their king[a]—its weight was found to be a talent[b] of gold, and it was set with precious stones—and it was placed on David’s head. He took a great quantity of plunder from the city and brought out the people who were there, consigning them to labor with saws and with iron picks and axes. David did this to all the Ammonite towns. Then David and his entire army returned to Jerusalem. In the course of time, war broke out with the Philistines, at Gezer. At that time Sibbekai the Hushathite killed Sippai, one of the descendants of the Rephaites, and the Philistines were subjugated. In another battle with the Philistines, Elhanan son of Jair killed Lahmi the brother of Goliath the Gittite, who had a spear with a shaft like a weaver’s rod. In still another battle, which took place at Gath, there was a huge man with six fingers on each hand and six toes on each foot—twenty-four in all. He also was descended from Rapha. When he taunted Israel, Jonathan son of Shimea, David’s brother, killed him. These were descendants of Rapha in Gath, and they fell at the hands of David and his men.
NOTES:
> This chapter is just a short one but it speaks of David’s men fighting and winning over different big and skillful enemies yet all were accounted as David victories. The most amazing this is that, David’s men never thought of it as unfair or that they deserve they credit. In fact, it seems like they were all satisfied to please their king and give him the glory. In the same way that David desires to please God and so in every battle he won, he always note that it was God who gave the victory. Truly, i can see that God has multiplied David in the eyes of his men. David produces people like him because he was living right before God, so in short, he lived more and more like God. So there was no jealousy, no mistreatment, all were in one spirit even if the credit only belonged to David. The same with us today as well. Let us seek to please and give God the credit and not focus on being creedy of what is supposed to be rightfully ours. Because in truth, everything is God’s including all our accomplishments that’s why all glory only belongs to Him! Hallelujah!
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, great and mighty One! The only One and True God! Thank You because You alone unite and give us peace, victory, blessings, wins, etc. Lord thank You because we can never boast of anything and so this unites us all in giving You praise alone. Thank You Lord because You produces people like us around us when we are one in spirit. Lord help me to always be humble like David and produces more humble people around me. Teach me Lord and help me to understand better. Again, let everything in me Praise You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
